SALEM, Mo.- A Salem, Missouri couple is charged in connection with the death of their 10-year-old adopted daughter.

Randall and Susan Abney are both charged with abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death. The call for help was made on October 3.

The Dent County Sheriff Bob Wells confirmed that a doctor said the girl, Josie Ann, was emaciated and was so dehydrated a doctor couldn’t draw blood.
....
The document says during an interview with police, Randall Abney told police the girl was emaciated because she chose not to eat and that she does that periodically.

Josie Ann Abney died at a hospital on October 3(KY3)

Deputies searched the Abney’s home and found a child lock on the refrigerator, and no food that would be reachable by the girl in the kitchen. Officers also found a drawer full of junk food in the Abney’s room.

When investigators interviewed the Abney’s, officers asked why the couple didn’t take the girl to the hospital, Susan Abney said “I was too scared of what they would think.” Then when deputies asked who was responsible for the girl’s death, Susan answered “Me and Randy.”'

Susan and Randall Abney will be in court on October 29.

A candelight vigil will be held for Josie Ann on Tuesday night at 7:30 at the Dent county courthouse.

Wgauradio.com has a lot of information. Sorry can't link.

12 or 13 foster children went through their home, but this precious little girl was the first to be adopted.

Doors locked from outside with an alarm over it. Another child left to starve to death on just a mattress. A blood sugar of 10, TEN at the hospital at 40 pounds?

Why? Why?

She was loved by Kristin Abney who says she is her sister, and a social media post from 3 years ago appears to show this.

What in the h*l* is happening?

SALEM, Mo. – Community members in Salem, Missouri gathered outside the Dent County Courthouse on Tuesday night. They remembered the life of 10-year-old Josie Ann Abney, called for justice in the investigation into her death, and called on everyone to do more to stop child abuse.

Josie weighed less than 35 pounds after she collapsed and died, according to the Dent County Coroner’s Office. The office said the typical weight for a 10-year-old is approximately 70 to 75 pounds.
