Just noticed the update on Kara Kopetskys familys website, I'm not sure how long its been up. I only read back a few pages on here- sorry if its been mentioned before. Looks like they certainly have a theory of what happened to her, if you read between the lines?
I didn't realize that the boyfriend was arrested for that incident in the car, and had a court date scheduled after her disappearance.

Also updated- there is a walk on Sunday May 2nd in Belton at the Cedar Tree Shopping Center. Not sure if I'm allowed to link to it but its the "find Kara Kopetsky" site.

Authorities Search Wooded Area For Kara Kopetsky
Belton Teen Missing Since 2007

UPDATED: 11:11 am CDT April 7, 2010

GRANDVIEW, Mo. -- Federal and local officials are searching a wooded area in Belton for missing teen Kara Kopetsky.

Kopetsky went missing from Belton on Nov. 4, 2007, and was last seen at Belton High School.

FBI officials confirmed that more than 200 officers were searching an area near the 5900 block of E. 154th Terrace.

Surveillance video of Kopetsky shows her at Belton High School on Nov. 4 and is the last evidence of her being seen.

The reward in the case is up to $30,000.

The family has been asking the FBI to get involved. The FBI spokesperson said this isn't the first time the FBI has been involved, but were earlier but that no one knew about this involvement.

I personally think poor Kara was written off as a runaway. I also think she's been murdered. I feel so sorry for her family. They have to beg for help, when so many other cases seem to be on the news non-stop.

I came across the above info info while I was looking for info Dustin Hilt's trial (he's accused of killing Keighley Alyea). His trial was scheduled to start on 4/5 and I've not been able to find out anything on the trial. You'd think there'd be media coverage, but I am not finding anything.

Kara's mom just said (on the news) that there were no tips or clues that brought authorities back to this area to search. It's been searched before, but they wanted to go back and do a more thorough search of this property. Kara's mom mentioned the Porter kids and how they were eventually found buried on land that had been previously searched.

The search party consists of LE, and I think they said there are Marines out there helping with the search. No civilian volunteers involved.

I just heard on HLN, this was the area of the last cell phone ping.

I believe it was early October 2007 when workers with the Missouri Department of Transportation discovered a body in a wooded area off of 163rd. I can't help but wonder if there is any connection with authorities wanting to search this area.

Area being searched:

They could also be working a tip. As you may recall, when Sam and Lindsey Porter were located, it was just another "search" in the area they previously searched, however days later it was revealed that Dan Porter led authorities to their remains.

Nothing to add but wanted to say that I still am praying for Kara and her family. I hope she is found soon.

Suzi..I just saw that on FoxNews as well and I was definitely relieved that the search for Kara and answers for her family isn't going cold.

Praying this search yields something..anything..that will help bring justice for Kara, and answers to her family. :rose:

From what I heard on the news this evening, there was nothing found. The news (I think it was channel 5) talked with Kara's mom. What a nightmare this must be for her. I sure wish they'd find her soon...

Does anyone know why this search was launched? And why that particular area?

Searchers scour ponds in search for missing Belton woman
Thu, Apr. 08, 2010 11:55 AM

A day after walking nearby fields, searchers are combing through several ponds in south Kansas City in an effort to locate Kara Kopetsky, who disappeared nearly three years ago.

At one pond, members of the Lee’s Summit Underwater Rescue & Recovery Team were lowering the water level several inches to conduct a better search, said Herb Myers, a member of the search team.

Thanks for posting this LuvBeaches. Kara's case is one that I have followed since the beginning, and I'm so grateful for this renewed interest. I just wanted to point out that Kara went missing on May 4th 2007, NOT November 4th 2007. I wish media would get their facts straight, especially in cases like these.

Here's a link to another story about the search.

There's also a pond that was or is being searched today for Kara. (Sorry, I can't access the video from work).

I think they have information, IMO.
There's SO many officers, they are really thoroughly searching this area, and they aren't allowing civilians to help search.
Praying for Kara, as always.

In a sense, I'm glad they didn't find anything. Maybe there is still a glimmer of hope.
