Judge sets trial date for Sunset Hills man charged with murdering wife, burying body

John K. McLaughlin, 59, is set to go to trial on Sept. 24, 2018. He faces a charge of second-degree murder in the killing of his wife, Linda McLaughlin, who disappeared June 1, 2015.

Sons Sue Father Charged In Death Of Their Mother, Linda McLaughlin

Christopher and John C. McLaughlin, the two sons of John K. McLaughlin, filed suit last month in St. Louis County Circuit Court against their father, blaming him for their mother's death and claiming he had an "evil motive" in her killing.

The wrongful death lawsuit filed May 31 by John K. McLaughlin's sons alleges he "intentionally caused the death of Linda through the use of physical force." It goes on to say that in causing her death, his behavior was "outrageous and with evil motive or reckless indifference." The suit also seeks damages due to the suffering they've endured since their mother's death, and financial accruements she might have obtained.

Trial postponed for Sunset Hills man accused of murdering wife, burying her in shallow grave

The trial of a Sunset Hills man accused of murdering his wife and burying her in a shallow grave in rural Missouri has been pushed back until May.

It had been set for Sept. 24, but a judge Monday rescheduled the trial for John K. McLaughlin, 60, for May 28, because his defense lawyer requested additional time to gather more evidence in the case.

Editor's note: The office of St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell said Tuesday this trial has been delayed. No new date has been set, and no motion has been filed to delay the trial, according to online court records. Officials would not comment on the reason Tuesday and McLaughlin's lawyer did not return a message seeking comment.

He pled guilty (see below). But 23yrs seems quite lenient given the heinous nature of the crime. I think the inexperienced, newly elected prosecutor got rolled by one of the best criminal attorneys in the state.
