"It is believed that Talfey Reeves (deceased as of November 15, 2021), picked Shauna up from the Tanglewood/Ginger Blue area of Missouri State Highway 59. Reeves bound her wrists and feet “hog tying” her, and transported her to an abandoned farmhouse where it is believed that he sexually assaulted her and overdosed her with drugs."

I wonder how police managed to identify Reeves as the suspect when Shauna's remains were supposedly skeletal. He must have left some DNA or a fingerprint on the cord used to bound her.

At one point, it was speculated the notorious BTK killer was the prime suspect. However, after Detectives Lorie Howard and Rhonda Wise spent decades gathering evidence, they announced Shauna's killer as Talfey Reeves who is now dead.

"Through statements, sources, witnesses, pounding the ground, and driving people absolutely insane for 30 years, we finally have the answers that we needed," Detective Howard said.

Detectives Howard and Wise say Reeves had multiple charges dating back to the 80s including first-degree assault and drug trafficking.
They were able to confirm Reeves was Shauna's killer through six corroborated sources and a witness who came forward after Reeves died in a car accident on Nov. 5, 2021.

"I can tell you Talfey Reeves was a suspect in this case for years," Howard said. "I just couldn't get anybody to talk to me on the record, as an affidavit, I couldn't corroborate their stories until years later. I had nobody who had the missing piece until he died. And that's how we are here today."

How terrifying that must have been for that poor woman. I hope she rests in peace.

McDonald County investigators turn to social media to solve a 32-year-old cold case

“We know around the time she went missing, she lived between Joplin and Coffeyville, Kan.,” said Lt. Michael S. Hall, with the McDonald County Sheriff’s Department.

One of the keys to a digital footprint is following a person’s activities on social networking sites. Those sites were nonexistent in 1990.

Now 30 years Hall hopes to use social media to solicit information about Garber’s life.

“We want to talk to someone who knew her,” Hall said. “We have no photo of her. We cannot find a drivers’ license or anything.”

Hall said Garber’s missing person case file with the Joplin Police Department cannot be located.

“We can’t find the report on microfilm,” Hall said.
It's interesting that she was reported missing, but not identified at the time.

Wait, Talfey Reeves (deceased) identified as the killer. But who was the other guy? There were two, right?

This is the most heartbreaking case I can remember.
Before we found out who Shawna's true killer was, LE thought she may have been murdered by Dennis Rader, though I forget why. Either way, we know know that's not true.

I did a little work regarding my last post.

The following are the words of Detective Lorie Howard from the McDonald County Sherriff’s Department. The selected quotes highlight the involvement of the second perpetrator. Full interview link at end of post.

Det. Lorie Howard discussing Talfey Reeves, whom she’s named as Shawna’s killer:

“He has a person of interest with him at the time. We were able to determine through both a witness and other sources, now five other sources, we've been able to corroborate this story, that he takes her ... “

“… he picks her up along with another, and he takes her up the road...”

“They tied her the rest of the way with what they had in the back of the vehicle. “

“They raped her, and she was screaming so badly and so … “

“… But they start to get nervous, so he overdoses her …”

“He gives her a hot shot.”

“And then TR and person of interest leave.”

“They then go and talk to someone else, and they're talking about everything that they just did to her, and they're laughing, and they think it's funny, and they're reliving every moment…Now, remember, this just happened … “

“Shawna was dead.”

Shawna is also discussed in Episode 5 of this season.

Moderator: I know this isn’t an approved source, but these are quotes from the detective herself speaking on the show, so I hope you will make an exception. I don’t think there are any other sources in which we can hear at length from a detective closely involved in the investigation.

The detective with the McDonald County Sheriff's Office fulfilled her promise and declared the decades-old case closed Thursday.

They have to give immunity to close cases, sometimes, unfortunately. Sigh..
