BBM- Tragic but FAR from uncommon. Hence why states are passing laws the protect people to encourage them to do the right thing. In addition, many times it's people that are high and not thinking with a sound mind.

Andrew Pierce woke up on May 5 next to Mikayla Jones, who had reportedly died... [snip] After spending “hours thinking what to do next,” Pierce and Ethan Civey wrapped Jones’ body in a comforter and placed into a car’s trunk...[snip] Eventually, the men reportedly hid Jones’ body on the side of State Highway M.
  • destroyed drug evidence at the home
  • packed up Jones’ belongings to be hidden
  • lied about what happened to Jones
When Civey was arrested ...[snip] he was found to be in possession of 12 Percocets, 13 pills identified as M523 10/325, and residue inside a rolled-up dollar...[snip] allegedly identified as acetaminophen and oxycodone.

If you absolutely must make a habit of doing powerful opioids and passing out you should probably get yourself a fitness tracker with a real loud alarm if your heart rate drops below like 30
 
Andrew Pierce and Ethan Civey have been charged with abandonment of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and obstruction of a government operation. Andrew claims that he woke up to find Mikayla next to him, dead. However, family and friends have questioned Andrew and Ethan's story from the beginning, and have started a Justice for Mikayla Facebook page.
On June 26th, 2021, a post shared revealed that results from a second autopsy show that Mikayla suffered a fractured skull, along with many contusions covering her lower extremities. Furthermore, the toxicology results showed no drug overdose (source: Justice for Mikayla Facebook Page). The first autopsy and toxicology results have yet to be released.
Various fundraisers and vigils are being held to try to raise awareness about this issue. A billboard has also been put up right outside of the Farmington exit.

Mikayla’s family is seeking murder charges for Ethan Civey, Andrew Pierce, and another woman present the night of Mikayla’s death. According to the family, Mikayla’s death was determined to be an overdose by Washington County prior to receiving toxicology reports, which ultimately revealed that no lethal amount of substances was found in Mikayla’s system. A private autopsy also revealed a fractured skull and multiple contusions to her lower extremities.

I didn't interpret that statement as victim-blaming but I can see how it could be interpreted that way. Unrelated to the victim, I do think it's a good idea for opioid users to track their heart rate with an alarm. It might save some lives.

To reiterate, I doubt this poor girl was voluntarily spending time with those disgusting criminals. I hope the forensic anthropologist is able to determine if her skull fracture was antemortem or postmortem, and if the former, the appropriate charges are filed against those guys. Also am wondering why the 3rd person involved (the woman) hasn't been named.

I did see her name early on, but I don't see it on any of the links provided here and I don't recall the name. Seems like LE jumped to conclusions on this for some reason. Her poor family. Hopefully things are headed in the right direction now.

It seems like LE based their initial conclusion of drug overdose on the first autopsy which determined drug overdose by the concentrations of drug(s) found in the victim's skeletal muscle. Now the 2nd autopsy is stating that while there were drugs present in the body, the drug concentrations cannot reveal if the COD is overdose, so it's all sort of hazy. Was she perhaps drugged by the men, raped, and then killed? I wish there were info about her relationship with those guys. Were they people she'd never met before? Acquaintances? Friends? How did she meet people like this who are so much older and horrible?

Regarding the toxicology report, Turner said the concentrations of drugs found in Jones' skeletal muscle could not be used to measure intoxication or toxicity and could only indicate that the drugs were present in the body.

"The concentrations of the drugs reported by the toxicology laboratory have no clinical correlate as postmortem skeletal muscle is not a clinically tested and validated matrix for interpretation, as is blood," Turner's report noted. "Accordingly, interpretation of the drug concentrations in post mortem skeletal muscle, with respect to intoxication or toxicity is scientifically and medically unsupported."

I'm sorry that you were offended by what I thought was an exceedingly gentle wording in an especially tragic case (considering the decedent's youth and beauty) but to be frank I still see nothing about this case to suggest it is anything other than what it appears to be, a sequence of events we see quite regularly here.

It is unfortunate that disposal of overdose victims is so common and apparently the punishment for it is less of a deterrent than our drug laws are a deterrent for seeking medical help. The laws are changing but it will take time for drug culture to catch up.

It is additionally unfortunate that the decedent's remains were too skeletonized for conclusive toxicology. I have seen other cases with longer delay have conclusive toxicology so in this case I might "jump to the conclusion" that circumstances beyond typical decomposition were involved. Perhaps animal activity. Post mortem damage to a body is also common.

In the absence of conclusive physical evidence we are left with no alternative but to take multiple eye-witness accounts of events as being reasonably accurate. It is completely understandable that a mother would reject this explanation and go to great lengths to try to protect her daughter's reputation after losing her. I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like and my heart goes out to her as it does to you if you are personally effected by this case.

Yes, I apologize. I was upset when I wrote that, but not at you. This is a real weird case and close to home. I'm from that area and that isn't the only case involving a murdered young person that isn't being investigated correctly and/or it's small town LE and they just don't have the experience needed for these types of cases. I'm generally sorry for wasting your time and upsetting you. I'll be much more careful in my responses in the future. I hope the truth is found out soon.

Not only can the concentration not be used to measure the toxicity, but authorities ruled her death an overdose as soon as she was found, prior to any toxicology/autopsy results.

Thanks for your video. I am new to this case and the video has helped me to understand what's really going on.

I also watched "Mikayla Dillyn Jones: her mothers fight for justice" on the YouTube channel "Crime Lines and Lies," which is an excellent interview with Mikayla's mother, Stacie.

Hopefully, people are realizing that the original coroner's report was inadequate--and so is the investigation (which oddly rejected help from the FBI).

It sounds like Stacie can use all the help and support that she can get.
I do not know if she is aware of Websleuths, but I think it would be a great resource for her.

At a hearing in Washington County on Monday, the court scheduled a jury trial for Nov. 3-4 in the case against 24-year-old Ethan Civey. The area man is charged with one count of abandonment of a corpse, four counts of tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution, and one count of possession of a controlled substance. [snip] A trial has not yet been scheduled in Pierce's case. On Nov. 22, Washington County Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Hedgecorth motioned the court to appoint a special prosecutor to the cases. The court granted the motion and appointed the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney's Office to handle the cases.
