KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Warrensburg woman is charged with child abuse after doctors determined a toddler allegedly suffered human bite marks, puncture wounds, and other injuries.

Johnson County prosecutors charged 39-year-old Ashley Marie Wallender with child abuse, child endangerment, and domestic assault.

A worker with the children’s division of Missouri called police on June 27, after receiving a report that a child in Wallender’s care was injured.

Officers investigated the tip and found a child under the age of 1-year-old covered in bruises and scratches, according to a probable cause statement.

The probable cause statement shows medical staff in Kansas City found additional injuries. The injuries include bruising on the soft parts of the child’s cheeks, jaw, and ear. A doctor also noticed a frenulum in the child’s mouth was torn. In addition, there is evidence that the child suffered scald burns on the palate, and may have tissue injury to the throat.

The child’s urine also tested positive for THC and amphetamines, according to court documents.

Well, just dammit. A wee one put through pain & suffering, just because this child was there.
Hoping the child will be able to live through this and be healthy again.

Lock her azz up.

Is this woman the mother of the child?
Dunno -- all we know from above is "a child in Wallender’s care was injured." This was from the KCTV5 article cited above -- IMO, it doesn't sound like it was her child -- but I could certainly be wrong.
Hoping we will get more info, and hoping the child will heal and be healthy and fine --and not be anywhere near this woman again.

Wallender stated that the child had not been feeling good and had been throwing up and had made an appointment that morning but was unable to go due to having no ride. It was later confirmed that Wallender was a no call no show for the appointment, according to court documents.

She said the child had fallen off the bed, that was 1 1/2 feet tall, two days before and that’s what caused the bruises.

When asked about the scratches and cuts on the child, Wallender stated that a vase had broke on the floor and she must have missed some small shards of glass when she swept, according to court documents. Wallender agreed to take the child to the hospital to be checked out.

At the hospital, court documents say medical staff notated extensive bruising on the child, along with three burn marks, two bruised human bite marks and several puncture sites on the soles of the child’s feet. The child was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital for a full screening.

Police are investigating an accident that occurred Jan. 2, 2015 when a blue Chevrolet Trail Blazer driven by Ashley M. Wallender, Warrensburg, struck a parked Saturn Ion in the 800 block of East Gay Street. As a result of the crash, the Ion rolled into a white GMC Yukon SUV. The Yukon rolled east through residential yards and struck a mailbox.

The Trail Blazer came to a stop on its side in the middle of Gay Street.Wallender said the accident occurred as she turned to speak to a passenger in the Trail Blazer and turned the vehicle’s wheel.

Police suspect Wallender of driving while intoxicated- drugs. At the time of the wreck, a police accident report states Wallender’s driver’s license was suspended.

She's been a winner for a while now.

doesnt really matter in terms of the reporting but is a ''child under 1 years old'' not a baby?? or when a baby learns to walk are they officially a toddler?

In the world of news reporting, the terms, "baby, "toddler" and "child" are often used as synonyms. The story is written with the choice of words that make the sentences flow without an attempt to use specifically defined terms.
