The North Kansas City officer was shot after pulling over a car for an expired temporary tag shortly after 10:30 a.m.

The suspected shooter took off in the car. The Clay County Sheriff announced the suspect’s arrest at 1:45 p.m., about three hours after the shooting.

Sad that such a young officers life was lost. Praying for his family and the other officers.

I should be able to find criminal records after the suspect is arraigned.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said the driver exited the car, began firing at that officer, seriously injuring the officer. North Kansas City Police Chief Kevin Freeman gave an update that Officer Vasquez died during a 2:30 media briefing.

The only description of the suspected shooter is that he is a white man with brown hair. FOX4 will update this story with more about the suspect and the charges he faces as that information is confirmed.

Freeman described Vasquez, who had been with the NKC Police Department since early July 2021, as “a phenomenal person” and “a shining star in our department.”

“He was easy to talk to and didn’t have an enemy,” Freeman said. “Everybody was his friend. It’s just senseless. It’s senseless all the time, but he was a great, great human being.”

A few hours later, the suspect turned himself in. A short time after that, Clay County Sheriff Will Akin announced Officer Vasquez died from his injuries.

For the North Kansas City residents, the day started with a Blue Alert to their phones, which is used when suspects pose a danger to police. It’s similar to Amber Alerts, when suspects pose a danger to children.

NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Joshua Rocha, 24, is charged with shooting and killing North Kansas City Officer Daniel Vasquez. The search warrant for Rocha’s home indicates he may have made the gun himself.

Police took a 3D printer and other gun making materials. In that search warrant, Rocha’s mother admitted to police that he had a 3D printer and that he had made several guns, including the one used in Tuesday’s deadly shooting.

According to the search warrant documents of his home, his mom told police Rocha had a fully automatic AR that he made. Plus, she said he had a 3D printer and that he makes guns.

Retired FBI agent Michael Tabman said 3D printed guns are considered a type of ghost gun, which means it is manufactured outside of the federally regulated processes and do not have serial numbers.

@Niner He possibly made his own gun according to this article.

Thanks for the heads up - I put that in my notes. I also see in the article:

Rocha’s next court appearance will be his bond hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, July 26.

They have the wrong date for the bond hearing....

Yes the article has the wrong date and the court site has July 28, 2022. I would trust the court site first.
