Update: Sheriff Believes Porter Murders Will be Solved

Arnott said one of his detectives still works on the Porter case exclusively. "We have several persons of interest," he said. Investigators have served multiple search warrants in several counties, not just Greene and Taney, he said.

A Springfield couple was arrested on drug charges on Wednesday May 30th, but it's what's contained in court documents that make their arrest noteworthy.

According to court documents, when US Marshals served a search warrant at the heavily fortified mobile home of Tony L. and Windy Dawn Friend at 3155 W. Brower St. #10 in Greene County they found seven illegal firearms and live ammunition.

Two people were charged with first-degree murder for the deaths of Rusty and Becky Porter after a grand jury handed up a six count indictment today (10-3-12.)

Tony Lee Friend, 44, of Springfield and Dusty Ray Hicks, 25, of Walnut Grove are each facing two counts of first-degree murder, armed criminal action and felonious restraint connected to the murders of the Porter's.

Has it been said why these two were killed? I realize there isn't a good reason but when I read that Russell Porters own uncle was involved it just blows my mind. Especially when I look at his picture. Why?

Campbell, the uncle of Russell Porter, was scheduled to be in court May 16, but his hearing was continued until June 13. He also received a change of venue, and is free on bond.

Porter Murder Probe Extends Into Barry County:

When will information about motive be released? Has it not been released because there are more arrests to come or because it may affect any trial?

Partial motive for the murders is the property dispute between Russell and his uncle Robert Campbell. There was supposedly an "intricate scheme" that could require the involvement of multiple state and/or federal agencies, information that will come out in the trials.

This is one of the saddest cases I've read. Taken from bed and marched into the woods and shot in the head over what? Land?

FORSYTH, Mo. -
A man from Walnut Grove was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday for his part in the deaths of a couple who lived north of Willard.

Dusty Hicks, 27, pleaded guilty in December. Greene County Circuit Judge Calvin Holden sentenced Hicks to two life (30-year) prison terms for second-degree murder, two 25-year terms for armed criminal action, and two seven-year terms for felonious restraint. The sentences will be served concurrently, and Hicks is not eligible for probation. As part of a plea deal, the murder charges were reduced from first-degree to second-degree, which will put a cap on his prison sentence.

Tony Friend pleaded guilty in Dec. 2013 to first-degree murder charges and is serving two life sentences without the possibility of parole.

Phillip Friend pleaded guilty in May 2012 to second-degree murder and felonious restraint. He was sentenced to seven years in prison for the restraint charge, but has not yet been sentenced for the murder charges.

Windy Friend was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole in May 2014.

Rusty Porter’s uncle, Robert Campbell, was also charged in the murders. He faces two counts of first-degree murder and will go on trial at a later date.
