Same type of crime as Memphis, just on a smaller scale.

I actually live not too far away in a very low crime area. It is so sad to see my grandparent's town fall so far.

Used to travel to Memphis (and other cities) many years ago, I would book hotels near mall/restaurants - remember the locals told me not to stay near the “Mall of Murder” in Memphis.
Several towns I frequented have increased in criminal activity and it’s sad. :(

I think because of the crime near the area they live in. There are nearby areas that Domino's no longer delivers to because of the gang related crime. It is really high right now in nearby Jackson and is spilling over in that area.

Another Domino's driver was brutally attacked, robbed and they stole his car just this past weekend nearby. I expect this to be related.

Ugh. So sorry to see this, and I'm sorry your grandparent's town has come to this.

In what is being described as a "heinous act," the body of Domino's delivery driver Hilereca Dortch was found behind an abandoned house in Canton Tuesday.
Her body was found 5.5 miles from her abandoned car.:(

Sorry if I missed an article... was it said somewhere that she was killed? The assumption seems to be that she was?...

But her phone and car are accounted for, right?

Dortch's car was found Saturday, parked behind an abandoned house and hidden by bushes. Some of her belongings were found in the car, Tammie Dortch said.

This is the latest update I have seen today.

Dortch's body was found Tuesday afternoon by Madison County deputies near the intersection of Old Yazoo Road and Heindl Road. Like her car, Dortch's body was also hidden behind an abandoned house. Madison County Coroner Alex Breeland said her body was behind a house at the intersection's corner.

The house where her body was found is approximately 5½ miles from where her car was found.

Breeland on Wednesday had not yet released the cause of death, citing the ongoing investigation. Dortch's body is currently at the state crime lab in Pearl. Breeland said he expects the preliminary autopsy results by the end of the week.

i think it is more a case where they are "ordering a pizza" then robbing them. something went sideways here.

It could be, but crime is rampant there and if you read the other article I posted, another one was carjacked and robbed just a day later. Domino's already quit deliveries to other areas experiencing this type of crime. They don't even need to order the pizza. I think they just follow and attack. Another recent arrest in the larger metro area of a guy using a blue light to pull over female motorists. There were multiple reported incidents before the Pearl police finally got him. At this point, Hinds County and JPD just take reports. It takes the criminals moving out into Rankin or Madison county before anyone tried to catch them. The book will be thrown at them if they are caught outside of Hinds county.

Oh my God, that poor lady- she was dumped behind an abandoned home? I'm thinking they killed her first and placed her there, then a second person drove her car the 5 and 1/2 miles away to throw off LE. Sickos. I hope they catch who did this soon. Rest in peace, Helerica. Such a shame people can't even work for a living without fear of being killed, probably by desperate for money druggies.

Yes, it could be drug related but also I can tell you it is most likely gang related, too. Huge issue and its out of control.

"MADISON COUNTY, Miss. —

A man charged in connection with a robbery and shooting at a Canton convenience store is also a suspect in the death of a woman who was found days after she went missing, the Madison County sheriff said."

"Caldwell is charged with armed robbery, attempted capital murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with the Jasco case, Sheriff Randy Tucker said.

Caldwell will be charged with the murder of Helerica "Latrice" Dortch, Tucker said."

As soon as I heard about this robbery and shooting, I had a feeling this would be connected to Latrice. I guess due to the brutality involved with shooting the clerk in the face. So glad they caught him and hopefully they have enough to convict. Controlling these guys are like a game of whac-a-mole, though.

Man arrested in store shooting suspect in Canton woman's killing, sheriff says

"We have had Domino’s corporate security personnel and a grief counselor at our store to help our team members with Latrice's passing. We have been in contact with Latrice’s family. For the next three days, (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) we will be donating 25% of our sales to Latrice’s family and her 8 years old son. Any additional donations can be made at our local store in Canton. We hope to get justice for Latrice in the coming days. Our prayers are with her, her family and friends.

Please refer any additional questions to local law enforcement, as this is an open and ongoing investigation," said Molly Yildirim, Domino's Pizza Franchisee"

So glad to see her employer stepping up for her son. :(
