Hi rbarber17. Yes, relatives and friends are off limits. From the rules:

Websleuths is a victim friendly forum. Attacking or bashing a victim is not allowed. Discussing victim behavior, good or bad is fine, but do so in a civil and constructive way, and only when such behavior is relevant to the case.

The "victim friendly" rule extends to the family members of victims and suspects. Sleuthing family members, friends, and others who have not been designated as suspects is not allowed. Don't make random accusations, suggest their involvement, nor bash and attack them. Posting their personal information, including names, addresses, and background data -- even if it is public -- is not allowed. That does not mean, however, that statements made by family members and other third parties cannot come into discussion as the facts of the case are reported in the media.

Thank you for that clarification. Quite a bit of reading that, but from it I have gained a new appreciation for all the behind-the-scenes care that has wrought such a unique experience among Internet discussion groups as WebSleuths. You have made it possible to hear and be heard, even for those among us with shall we say a more rebellious bent and lacking what I believe you Americans call savoir-faire?

I salute you,

Another young woman was killed last Saturday night, this time here in NC. LE says the fire in her apartment, from which she was pulled, was intentionally set. She was working as a college counselor, and was to be married on June 30th. The following are this young lady's own words, written during a course she took on death and dying:

“Please continue to find passion and meaning in your life, for without those two things life is meaningless,” Strous wrote. “Celebrate my life and reminisce through the good times, because I am in a better place and you only live once.”

Also, have we addressed this info, from his LA trial?

"Without a jury present, Eric Hill testified that Tellis told him about using the card while both were drinking.

WHBQ-TV reported that Hill — a cousin of Tellis’ wife — testified that when asked about how Tellis had obtained the card, Hill replied, “he told me about a robbery and stabbing.”

"Quinton Verdell Tellis, charged with capital murder in the 2014 burning death of Jessica Chambers, is expected to return to Mississippi today, District Attorney John Champion said."

"Quinton Tellis arrived at the Desoto County Jail around 6:15 p.m."

Thanks for that, bbbd4u and MSCJgrad.

Why the DeSoto jail? Champion is DA for several MS counties (DeSoto / Tate / Panola / Tallahatchie / Yalobusha). Maybe he thought the Panola County jail would be a bad idea, although that would be the jurisdiction where the murder was committed. I'm sure Ben has plenty of friends working there.

I assume there will be a request made by the defense for a change of venue from Batesville, but where? It's not like this case hasn't received nationwide attention.

"Mr. Champion is a phenomenal leader over this district. While he makes sure that every felony case is prosecuted to the fullest extent, he also advocates for victims and makes sure that they truly believe justice was served."

One would presume that "victims" includes "victim families" and considering their sense of what constitutes justice being served, whenever the victim is unable to do so. Looks like this will not be DA Champion's first rodeo -- an ADA from 1993-2001 (9 years), and the DA from 2001 to present (16 years). I would anticipate his personal involvement in this case will continue, with help I'm sure.

I'm hoping John Gresham is taking notes and will write a carefully researched book on this case. I know non-fiction is not his cup of tea, and his specialty was civil and not criminal law. But perhaps he would break with tradition just this once. It's not like he's new to the area, or to the subject of Mississippi's legal system. He and Champion are both Ole Miss law school graduates, but they graduated 11 years apart.

Thanks. Marking my calendar as follows:

Plea hearing for the capital murder of Ms. Jessica Lane Chambers.
July 15 (Friday), 2016, 09:00 a.m. (CDT).

Gary Gilmore -- Anybody remember that name from the 1970’s? His famous last words (at the time of his execution by a firing squad) were: “Let’s do it.”

Tried and convicted after murdering two people in back-to-back robberies, Gilmore did not appeal his conviction. But against his wishes, the ACLU tried its best to keep him alive, appealing his case all the way to the Supreme Court and winning several stays of execution along the way.

Timeline (courtesy of Wikipedia)

07/19/1976 First robbery/murder
07/20/1976 Second robbery/murder
10/5/1976 Trial begins
10/7/1976 Jury begins deliberations
10/7/1976 Jury verdict is guilty
10/7/1976 Jury recommends death penalty
11/15/1976 Original execution date
01/17/1977 Execution carried out by firing squad

So, from crime to punishment, the entire process took just under six months. Jessica’s case has already exceeded that pace by one year (12/6/2014 to 7/7/2016), with no end in sight.

Thanks for this link. Within this article, there are several links that further explain the details of this crime. Odd that there is an 'Eric' connection, being QT's wife's cousin, who had provided details of Mandy's murder that only the murderer could have known (Eric claimed to have been told those details by QT). Here's a link to the indictment: https://www.scribd.com/document/317...en-Hsiao-stabbing-death#fullscreen&from_embed. Basically, Mandy was tortured for her ATM pin number, being sliced superficially with the intention of hurting her until she gave up her pin #. Also worth noting is that Eric and QT allegedly exchanged 'war stories' detailing the crimes that they had committed in their lifetimes (http://www.clarionledger.com/story/...ent-louisiana-victim-tortured-death/86811406/). Oh, to be a fly on the wall during that conversation. What are the chances of Mrs. Tellis being privy to those conversations? Better yet, what are the chances of her not. This is all so sad, so disturbing. Even more, Mrs. Tellis told investigators that QT didn't have a job, so he just babysat her son. Even if I were to assume that she was 100% in the dark in regards to her husband's criminal behavior (which I do not believe for one second), WHEN are women going to stop leaving their children under the supervision of men with suspect backgrounds?? This website alone is rife with threads detailing the myriad crimes committed against children who were left with male suiters. Similar stories are in the news every day. That poor little boy is lucky that he made it out of that whole scenario alive. R.I.P Mandy & R.I.P Jessica.

Poor, dear Ms. Mandy Hsaio.

You are welcome and thanks for your enlightening analysis.
I have 100% confidence in Ms. Jessica Lane Chambers
and her dying declaration that "Eric did this to me."
An "Eric" is involved somehow.

Those poor girls. It would appear both murders were sadistically planned to cause maximum pain to the victims. I hate that an appropriate punishment cannot be similarly imposed. Something from the old James Bond movie, Goldfinger, comes to mind. What a lowlife , excuse my French.

Curious how Hsaio’s upstairs neighbor was unable to hear the screams of someone being tortured with 30 knife cuts, when the same neighbor was able to hear an argument earlier. Was Hsaio bound and gagged? If so, how could she respond to her tormentor's demands for her PIN number? Perhaps the neighbor was not around at the time of the murder. Sorry, off topic I know.

That Eric Hill bears further investigation. He has already admitted lying to investigators about one of the murders, and that first name and his family connections with Tellis are just too big a coincidence to ignore.

I gotta agree with the neighbor. Quinton Tellis’ photo creeps me out.

Jessica Chambers suspect charged in Louisiana homicide
Therese Apel, The Clarion-Ledger 6:04 a.m. CDT July 8, 2016

The man charged in the 2014 burning death of Jessica Chambers in Mississippi now faces an additional murder charge in Louisiana.

Panola County District Attorney John Champion said Quinton Tellis also has been charged in the August 2015 death of Meing-Chen Hsiao.

Therese Apel, The Clarion-Ledger 8:11 a.m. CDT July 8, 2016

Meing Chen-Hsiao of Taiwan was stabbed over 30 times in her Monroe, Louisiana apartment before she gave her debit card PIN number to her killer, a law enforcement officer said in court records.

Monroe Police Detective Duane Cookson's affidavit also stated that killer is one known to Mississippians as being the suspect in one of the most notorious homicides in recent years.

Tellis does show evident signs of torturing his victims, that's for sure.

Also worth noting, imo, is the common denominator between EH & QT, being Mrs. T (EH's cousin, QT's wife). Two different women in two different states from two different walks of life both encounter a horrendous death at the hands of the same person/people. Aside from the two murders having completely different motives, which is of course possible, what else do the two murders have in common? Women that crossed the path of a certain men/men. Who could possibly be angered by QT's association with other women? Just a thought.

I have said all along that this ,was no secret. When QT was named I doubted that he did it alone.

There is still more to be learned, IMO.
