Courtland Fire Chief Cole Haley testified during the after lunch session, saying that he first heard the name "Eric" from Panola County EOC director Daniel Cole. He said it was very loud on scene w/ fire trucks, radio traffic, etc. Had to "get in her face" to hear anything.

Daniel Cole said he was called to the rear of the fire truck where Cole Haley had called to him. Said Chambers was burned "everywhere you could see." Face, eyebrows, soot around mouth and nostrils, charring and burns everywhere. Hair burned away from her face.

DAniel Cole said speech was not very loud. Tongue was swollen, breathing was labored. The more we talked to her the more difficult it became for her to speak, "it would get more breathy." She was trying to communicate and it was difficult.

Daniel Cole said first responders and Jessica were frustrated with each other because they couldn't communicate. He said at one point they even thought her name was Courtney. With noises on scene, they had to be right in her face to hear her at all.

"Very very very chaotic scene," Cole says of the loudness, the communications, firefighters yelling to each other.
He gave her a pen and paper to get her to write down what she was trying to say and she couldn't hold the pencil or move her arms to write because of burns.
