Cigarette burns found on Biloxi toddler who died. 2 other kids ingested meth, prosecutor says
Rowan Cannette died aged one, after accidentally suffocating himself between a wall and a couch at his home in Biloxi Mississippi.
Investigators later found bites to his face, arms and legs, bruises up his back and burns at various stages of healing on his feet, according to Sun Herald.
Despite signs of abuse, parents Thomas Cannette and girlfriend Cassandra Lopresto, both 27, will face no action.
Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said there's no evidence that they caused his death.
The couple were asleep when the toddler got his body jammed and slowly died on December 3.
Unemployed Cannette and Lopresto had been locking their kids in abedroom for three months while they slept, he told a hearing.
On December 3, they went to bed assuming a man who was staying with them would watch the children.
But the man left the house with his girlfriend and returned later to Cannette screaming for help, having found the tot.
Rowan was rushed to hospital but doctors declared him dead by accidental asphyxiation.
Investigators then found harrowing indicators he had been abused, along with his siblings.
Tests on two other children revealed they had ingested meth according to prosecutor Herman Cox.
