The Katelynn Berry case is extremely sad. I know she suffered with some mental health issues & May she now Rest In Peace.
It’s so hard to believe this young gal was only 1100 ft from home & 90 ft from the road in a farmed field. Did she really lay there for a month? Is it truly possible?
I know they did a drone search at the start of her disappearance but I’m not sure about dogs..Does anyone truly know?
On the radio broadcast they stated the Sidney area should not be in fear. Does this mean an isolated incident (maybe domestic)or a suicide?
I’m so heartbroken for Katelynn & her family. I hope & pray they have all the answers to their questions so they can find some sort of peace in this tragedy.

I moved to a neighboring town - but it still impacts the surrounding communities. Small towns sure like their gossip. We all want to know what happened... The town still hasn't healed from the kidnapping and murder of teacher Sherry Arnold in January 2012.

You have to wonder if someone sitting in a vehicle saw her come through the gate and walk to the store and stopped her on her way back and she never made it back home, which would explain the open gate her dad saw. And if I was just running next door to grab something from the gas station, I don't know if I'd take my phone and everything with me? I guess it depends on if I was expecting someone to contact me and if my pants had pockets.

There isn't really any wildlife around there that would attack people. Not with all the livestock nearby. No bears, no wolves, just coyotes, foxes, badgers and maybe if someone's dogs got loose or something.

I don't know if this info matters to anyone, but the truck stop also has a stand alone casino next to it, on the north side of the parking lot, and a liquor store inside the convenience store. I hope law enforcement can find more clues but I imagine most security cameras are focused at the gas pumps and inside, IF they're operating.
Thank you so much for your input. It is greatly appreciated!

Noting:
  • Authorities have been tight-lipped about the case.
  • Her family still isn’t sure how she died.
  • The coroner’s report could up take up to six weeks to be completed.
  • Katelynn's aunt worries that her niece could have been murdered.
  • Katelynn coped with her mental health issues by turning to drugs.
  • She spent time in and out of rehab, sometimes out of state.
  • Berry’s family isn’t sure if her mental health issues or drug addiction had any part in her death.
  • Sheriff Dynneson said investigators are waiting to determine a COD before deciding whether they believe there was foul play.

Were her remains returned to the family for the Celebration of Life that was held last week? If so, wouldn't it be unusual if this is a homicide? Tom Simon from Coyote News Radio Live reported on the 28th that their investigation showed that the community should not be worried about 'someone being on the lose or safety related to this matter.'

The services could have been held before the remains were released but since the family used a funeral home, they must have the remains. The parents aren't now, publicly at least, expressing concerns about foul play. I don't know why a relative would make a comment like that before the autopsy/toxicology results are released, especially since LE said there is no cause for alarm.
ME's don't keep the remains of victims that have someone to claim them. After the autopsy, photos, scans, x-rays, tissue samples for testing and preservation, evidence removed, etc., the rest of the corpse is not kept in storage. Not the same as unidentified bodies, which are usually held for a short time, or unidentified bones, which will no longer decompose.

I also follow this case Twitter. I really believe to my core that something happened to this young lady. She may have had mental health & drug issues because of it but….
To think she laid in a farm field for a month 90’ of the road doesn’t seem possible. Look at the map of the residents there on that very road & NOBODY seen her? Just doesn’t seem possible.

GRAND FORKS — Katelynn Berry, the 26-year-old Montana woman with Grand Forks ties whose body was found last month, died from hypothermia, her parents confirmed to the Herald on Friday.

Authorities determined that the manner of Berry’s death was accidental and the cause of her death was hypothermia, according to Hank Berry, Katelynn Berry’s father, and Carmell Mattison, her mother.

Simple mistakes can have deadly consequences in frigid climates. So incredibly sad

What do you mean by simple mistake? Such as...?
I assume she means thinking you can go farther in the cold than you actually can or even such a superficially simple mistake as "forgetting your coat".

I still think there was a secret paramore involved here, because I still think the evidence we have indicates that she was away from her apartment and unaccounted for for some amount of time then returned (and left her phone) then left again. Although if memory serves me correctly it's possible that her did just didn't try calling her phone while he was standing in her house. I visualize a situation where she was dropped off and decided to walk back to wherever she was - or possibly an argument where she either stormed out or was thrown out.

This case is a sad lesson about how important it can be to try to keep track of family members. We see it much more often with older people but young people can also act without thinking of their own safety and they're much more resistant to being kept track of.

JMHO the comment sounded ominous. It's the use to the word "mistake", Idk.

Paramour? Agree. Do people typically use those drugs alone?

Methamphetamines keep people awake for days and they will do all kinds of things that only make sense to the person who is using. It's hard to say why she was in that particular spot. She was so close to home, it's a bit odd that it took so long to locate her body. How tragic.

It sounds like Katelynns parents were involved and maintained contact. However if a person is using something like meth, it can be very, very difficult, frustrating, draining to look after.

The parents and school have set up a scholarship in Katelynns name for students struggling with mental health and substance use. That's nice to create something positive from something so sad.

"People don't want to talk about it, even within our family," Mattison said. "There probably were not a lot of people that even knew my daughter had a mental health diagnosis, because we did keep it very close to us and I want people to know that it's OK."

That's why days after her death Mattison and Katelynn's aunt created a foundation in Katelynn's honor, Katelynn's Voice. The focus is to encourage people and families to be more open and not be afraid of talking about mental health and addiction.

"Mental health and substance abuse kind of go hand and hand," Mattison said. "So often individuals that have a mental health diagnosis try to self-treat themself, self-medicate themself with other substances."

The Katelynn’s Voice Foundation seeks to help those struggling with mental health and drug and alcohol abuse. It was founded by the family of 26-year-old Katelynn Berry, who was found dead in January. Alissa Smith, Maci Paine, and Kylie Johnson were each given $2,500 plus hundreds of dollars in gift cards donated by local businesses.

“This is a big step to show people that Katelynn’s Foundation is here, we’re staying, and we’re going to be helping anyone and everyone we possibly can when it comes to mental health, or drug and alcohol addiction,” said Carla Couture, Katelynn’s Aunt.
