The only thing is that the police sketches of the UID couple are rather thinnish and the McMinns look like they have a little more meat on their bones. Also, Mr. McM has a full beard and mustache which he is known to wear, and the sketch of the UID does not--of course, if he's on the lam he might shave, and maybe a trip across the Pacific from Hawaii to the mainland he lost weight. The ring on the UID with the initials JPF doesn't fit McMinn...

I think it's more likely that the McMinns were lost at sea, but as we all know, ANYTHING is plausible! And, the whole agent sightings, and being UID for so long, makes for a creepy conspiracy theory angle.

I'll be eager to see if there are new developments.

So - any news? Also, I am new to this case, and I have looked and looked, but I can't find the origins of the Jim and John Henry "sold the gun" issue. I remember reading on another board that the cops believe they found the gun. Was the person who had it one of the Henry brothers? I'm really confused about that piece of the story.

I read on a blog that the DNA results are back. Not Europeans.

Yes the murder weapon had been a gift, originally stolen, from one Henry brother to another.

Not of European ancestry? Or not from Europe? (which would require isotope testing, right?)

The other options are: South Asian, Middle Eastern/North African, Sub-Saharan African, East Asian/Native American, Oceanian. According to the 23andme page, anyway.

On our way back from a trip to Florida last week, my wife and I drove down Locklair Road, the dirt road off of I-95 in Sumter County, SC where the bodies were found. I've been following this case for a few years now, and felt drawn to see for myself the crime scene. Entering the road from the south, it is a very secluded through a patch of trees for perhaps 100 yards and then cuts through a large farm field where 2 combines were running. At the south end of the road, a red sign reads "Drug Checkpoint 1 Mile Ahead". Very strange since this is in the middle of nowhere and we did not encounter any kind of checkpoint, only 2 lonely farmers on their combines. I was hoping to find some kind of memorial at the exact crime scene, but did not, so I was unable to determine the exact spot where the bodies were found. I couldn't help but think that whoever comitted the crime had to be familiar with the area, since you have to travel on 2 other roads to get to the south entrance of Locklair Road. It looked like nothing had changed at all since 1976.

Would you be surprised to learn that a large estate here was owned by a former military transport pilot from Washington, DC?

Welcome to Ws and to this thread bcadle and dorisward !!

Even though I don't post much, I come here at least once a day to check on these does. Hoping for some development or clue to pop up. I'd be willing to do anything to get some answers on this case. Some day I will post my theories, though I regret reading about this years ago of wikipedia, and then one night a few months ago, using what little details I remembered to try to find it again and do some more research.

Also is it me, but in looking at the crime scene photos of our Jane, is it me or does it look like she has a shaved head? I know the closeup is tough for some people, but it was posted by another member a few posts up and I swear either my eyes are going or the woman is different there than in the post autopsy photo where she appears to have shoulder length hair. To me, her hair looks about 1/2 inch long, am i going crazy?

I think her hair is slicked back in some of the photos so it looks very short.

Yeah, that's why they'll almost never make an ID from photos. The same person can look entirely different depending on angle, lighting, contrast, etc. I have to wonder how many people have looked at a single morgue photo of a deceased person and mistakenly thought it wasn't their missing relative.

Diane Marie Bourne was mentioned quite a while ago so I wanted to see if she was on the rule out list but I can't find these two on Namus. They aren't on there?

It seems someone is convinced that the mystery couple are Michael and Cordelia McMinn, to the extent that they've been included in their family's genealogical website which lists the couple's identity as Michael and Cordelia McMinn with a death date given as 1976 and place of death as Sumter County. If you Google Michael McMinn then this website comes up. It seems they are certain it's a match.

There are some intriguing similarities but, to me, the male victim looks younger than Michael in his pictures and the female looks older than Cordelia looks in her photos, although I don't know how old those pictures are. There must surely be fingerprints and DNA for all concerned so it should be easy to find if there's a match. If it is them, then how did a couple who went missing in the Pacific turn up dead in an east coast state? There would still be the mystery of who killed them as well.
