<snip> a legal expert based out of Atlantic City, says prison time could be a possibility, though not a likely one.

<snip> The question to ask is if it’s a probability, and in this case I don’t see it as a probability with respect to the parents involved.”

As per usual, the rich celebrities probably won’t do any prison time. Big shocker. What a world.

Non-profit in college admissions bribery case paid $100,000 to company at UCLA soccer coach’s home

Non-profit in college admissions bribery case paid $100,000 to company at UCLA soccer coach’s home – Daily News

Salcedo, an All-American and national champion as a player at UCLA who has been his alma mater’s head coach for the past 15 years, is alleged to have taken payments totaling $200,000 in exchange for helping admit one female and one male applicant to UCLA under the pretense they were soccer recruits when they did not play competitive soccer.

MOO- All of this is just so messed up. So glad to see this blow open. It’s hard enough for students to gain admission, let alone pay (for many).

Good grief , O, made it clear she just wanted to party and experience game days. - meanwhile there were hundreds of kids, who had worked their butts off, praying for that admission. This is so sickening.

The extra kick is that the parents and the foundations received some pretty decent tax right offs for their “charitable donations.”

The scheme was discovered accidentally by the FBI while working an unrelated undercover operation about a year ago, officials said. That tip led to a sprawling, nationwide corruption probe.

Two California parents paid Singer in the form of Facebook stock — 2,150 shares worth $251,159 at the time of the bribe in July 2016, according to court papers. Those parents claimed that payment as a charitable donation, the papers said.

Other defendants include William McGlashan, a senior executive at a global private equity firm, TPG Growth, which is a major investor in the ride-hailing service Uber and the music-streaming app Spotify.

A TPG spokesman said “as a result of the charges of personal misconduct against Bill McGlashan,” he has been placed on “indefinite administrative leave effective immediately.”

Even if these children aren't good test takers, their wealth would have given them so many advantages in the college admissions process anyway, they have access to amazing people to write recommendations for them, money to be able to participate in things like volunteer tourism, expensive courses outside of school that would give them easy AP credit, opportunities and the financial ability to take internships etc.

McGlashan allegedly had discussions with an unnamed individual who participated in the scheme, dubbed "CW-1" in the indictment. CW-1 created "a fake football profile using Photoshop software" so that McGlashan's son could be enlisted as a "purported football recruit," according to court documents.

What a slime. Truly

Imagine what other sorts of fraud, misrepresentation, bribery and other unethical behavior this guy participates in

Imagine the good that $500,000 worth of scholarships for disadvantaged kids could have done, rather than going into the pockets of frauds so this stupid girl could pose as a college student.
The girl is stupid, but dont forget it was a number of parents who did this for their kids. its not a celebrity thing its a rich person thing.
There is a whole lobby out to protect the rich while a whole movement is to stop their abuse of power.
This is a symptom of a greater ill, not a one off

Right. That's why companies are scrambling, imo. The need to at least pretend to be honest, and that's hard when your top guys are caught in this scandal.

What a mess....for really no purpose. Those kids would be fine - either by delaying school, getting in a different school, or not going to school at all. It's not as if a greater good was accomplished.

Very good point. That money really would make a difference to many, many applicants.

Maybe some of the companies where these bribers work will set up funds.
