UPDATE: The FBI has ordered the Amber Alert for Anthony Manuel Diaz to be canceled. Mount Airy Police Department says Anthony Manuel Diaz is still missing and does not know why the alert was canceled.

So the Amber Alert was cancelled (probably because this case did not meet the criteria) but he is still missing.

Amber Alert issues for missing Mount Airy boy | Mt. Airy News

An amber alert issued earlier Sunday has been canceled, but the child is still missing, according to the Mount Airy Police Department.

The original alert was issued Sunday morning as authorities began searching for 12-year-old Anthony Manuel Diaz, who had been reported missing from the 900 block of Willow Street. However, the alert was canceled because “he no longer met the criteria for an Amber Alert,” an official with the city police department said.

She went on to explain police no longer believe he was abducted, thus he fell short of the full Amber Alert criteria. However, she said police still consider him a missing person and are actively searching for him. Authorities say Anthony is 4’7”, weighs 78 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

BREAKING NEWS: Anthony Manuel Diaz has been found and is ok. Police are taking him home. He was found on HWY 89 near Independence @SpecNewsTriad

I am assuming Independence VA. Going straight up HWY 89, it would be about 40 miles and an hour driving.
I would think that would be a little far for a 12 y/o to travel. Maybe he had a ride and that was what was confusing about the Amber Alert?
