Thank you for this thread. I have been heartsick over Officer Dix's killing but deeply touched by the support from the citizens of Greensboro. Everyday is a new report on how he impacted peoples lives. There seems to be a growing disrespect for LE and I am happy to see it is not here.
Wed. was the Hero procession escorting his body from the ME in Raleigh to Greensboro funeral home. The route was flanked by police, firefighters, emt's and citizens. A prayer vigil was held after.

Today I read a 911 caller working at Sheets had called about the same Equinox robbing the same store of beer 2 times previously.

Court documents reveal more details on suspects involved in shooting of Sgt. Philip Dale Nix
Due in court today.
My heart hurts for the family, friends and colleagues of fallen Police Sergeant Philip Dale Nix.
It just hits harder when it’s local. As violent crime is increasing in our area, I truly fear for the safety of my kids and grandkids growing up here.
lynchmob67,
I am local and while yes there is violent crime here, I feel GSO is a safe place to live. NC overall is fairly safe and a great place to raise children. You do have to be cautious in any city.
I went back to my birth state of Central Florida for 7 months and it was frightening for a small older alone female.
I could not wait to get back to NC.
I am heartbroken for Sgt. Nix's family and LE, and for all of GSO.

Appreciate your insight @cuffem. I’ve lived in the Triad all my life. I do agree that most cities have areas you should avoid. However, many of the areas where I felt safe growing up here are the ones I avoid now. I suppose it’s all relative.
For this to have happened at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon, in what I would consider a safe location, rattles me.
We actually relocated to a more rural community here 7 years ago just to avoid our youngest child going to the high school that our older 3 went to. So yes, there are great areas here in NC to raise a family. I just wish they were the same ones I grew up in.
I felt like I needed to provide a reference for my comment on violent crime in the area. The figures quoted reference homicides only.
All my opinions.

“As of June 18, (2023) there were 28 homicides in Greensboro compared to 19 by that date in 2022. As of June 23, there were five homicides in High Point in 2023 compared to the same time in 2022. There were 28 homicides in Winston-Salem as of June 18, compared to 20 during the same period in 2022.”

Nice to meet another local on here. I remember reading your article when it came out. It is the state of the US today.
Coming from Raleigh, the city of Cary had always been a safe, upscale town with hardly any crime. I still follow Raleigh news and for the past year it seems Cary has had crime after crime, some violent ones too. This was unheard of a few years ago.
Before the GSO Broadcastify went down, I would listen to GSO PD scanner on Friday and Saturday nights and the craziness LE has to deal with is unreal. It makes you not want to go out after 9pm on weekends.
