I wonder if there's any possibility a homeless person slipped into the unit seeking shelter, and didn't survive?
While we don't know cause of death and cause of death could have been also undetermined, I personally do not think this case is about collecting benefits.
The reason - police know who owned the storage since they found the remains 4 years ago. By now they would have linked whoever was missing from the owner's immediate circle or bank records. They would also not seek expensive forensic genealogy. So, in my humble opinion, something else is in a play.
I guess I am getting more intrigued about the name of the owner...
It reminds me of the case from 2-3 years ago when remains were found in container inside of an abandoned car behind the block of flats. Remains were there for few decades and only discovered due to owner of the car passing and someone else clearing it few years later. His name was never released and she was unidentified. I am actually not sure if it got solved by now.
If you remember that case (remains found in a car), let us know if it was ever resolved. Hopefully she was identified, but if not, we would love to help.
This is the case I was thinking of: IL - IL - Alton, HispMale UP12861, 43-60, mummified remains in car trunk, Aug'14
His Namus page isn't available but we don't know whether he's been identified.
I don't think this is the same case @Al Ka was talking about.

Well, I have finally found the case and woman was identifed. Her remains were found in 2017 in container inside of car in Illinois and after identification police believe she was murdered and put there 11 years prior, around 2006. She was wife of the owner of the car, their prime suspect. She was not reported missing.
I don't think Durham Jane Doe case is straightforward as that case as I assume if she was partner/gf of the owner of the storage she would be identfied in last 4 years since she was found (in my humble opinion).

Carbuff thank you for searching. No, the case I have in mind was female. I can't recall in which state it was but I will have a look if I can find it. I recall there were some clothes there with gruesome photos in Namus, but also yellow moneybag from bank near her in the car.
