I've heard Nancy Grace describe people as looking as though they were scrubbed in sunshine. I think if that ever accurately described anyone, it was this young lady. What a terrible tragedy.

I don't think it was a random carjacking because....they dumped her car and didn't take anything from it. I watched a news conference with the Chapel Hill police earlier today and they said the car had not been stripped, it was in fine condition. If you were going to carjack someone, wouldn't you take the car or strip it of anything valuable? I feel like someone lured her out of her dorm room and attacked her. I don't think this was random.

Agree. If the perps were using a carjack ruse, they would have at least taken the car. Also, since this is a relatively low crime area, what are the odds of this being random (wrong place, wrong time assumes the place is dangerous) vs targeted.

Do they even know is she was driving? Could she have been jogging? Or had a ride from someone else?

I haven't seen a map of where she was found vs the location of her home and car, but if she lived in an area with many student rentals, maybe the car was parked a couple of blocks away just because there were no available spots.

The LE pressor today said she was at home studying when her friends left at 1:30 AM to go out. So, either she had an intruder or she decided to drive somewhere and was abducted. They couldn't find her car until yesterday afternoon so I presume it wasn't there until then as surely someone would have noticed it since they were looking for it. The keys were not in it and it wasn't stripped.

It seems whoever killed her knew where she lived or they wouldn't have returned the car to her neighborhood.

It has been indicated that she was found wearing Starbury shoes, which are a special shoe put out by NBA player Stephon Marbury. These are not running shoes so it appears that the idea of her going out running is likely not true. Also, even for a serious runner, which I've not heard if she was or not, it would have to be extremely unusual to leave your house by yourself to go running at 1:30 in the morning, regardless of how safe your neighborhood is.

if it was an intruder, then I think they would have found her cell in her apt. She must have gone out, either to her campus office, or maybe to get something to eat (are there restaurants open late at night in Chapel Hill, with all the students around I would think so), or maybe she decided to go meet up with her friends after all. I haven't heard that they found her cell anywhere...is that right? What about her purse, was it still in her apt. Although I know alot of college girls don't really carry purses.

No, I wouldn't think at 1:30am, but since she was shot around 5 am, I thought maybe some runners might get an early start. Thanks for the information on the shoes.

I didn't see this link posted. If it was I apologize in advance.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Police admitted Friday they needed help in solving the fatal shooting of a popular University of North Carolina student, issuing an appeal to the public and other authorities with the offer of a $25,000 reward.

Chapel Hill Police Chief Brian Curran said detectives were still focusing on their only concrete evidence to date in the murder of 22-year-old Eve Marie Carson: her SUV. He believes her killer may have been inside the vehicle at some stage, but reiterated that she appeared to be the victim of a random crime.

The bolding is mine. I really am having a hard time with this being random.

She was a wonderful human being. Young, intelligent and beautiful.
This was not a random murder. This young woman was very high profile.
Everyone knew who she was!

I really doubt she would be running around between 1:30am-5:00am. Hungry or not without a friend. Why aren't they looking into current boyfriends (married or not)?? or jealous spiteful students on campus?

The publicity to this University has been pristine, "How wonderful Eve was, etc. Greta tried to ask one of Eve's friends (last nite), if there was anything inappropriate in Eve's life. Anyone representing Eve were very well rehearsed and what knew to say, and quickly Greta's question went unanswered.

It's easier to say its random. I don't think they'd allow any publicity that would taint this pristine image of the University at Chapel Hill.

It isn't that random no matter what is said. University or not. Someone knew where she lived to return the car. I think she was abducted from her home.

Right, I think it was someone she knew, too. Was she having an affair with someone?

I just heard on NG, that LE is checking cell phone records and looking at all avenues to search for clues, that's reassuring.

I don't think calling it a random crime is doing anything to help salvage the university's reputation. Random crime indicates psychos or gangs running around campus killing young women - not exactly the image you would want to project. The easy way would be to say it was most likely not random, perhaps a relationship gone bad: Eve was the sole target, so no one else is in imminent danger

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — You couldn't escape Eve Carson's presence at the University of North Carolina.

The slain student body president welcomed all incoming freshmen — each and every one — to stop by her office for a chat. She was a member of the school's Board of Trustees and a tournament-winning intramural flag football team.

She had friends in the chancellor's office, friends on the school's top-ranked basketball team and more among the school's 28,000 students.

"She was a bright spot in anybody's day," said Seth Dearmin, a former student body president who met Carson during her freshman year. "She took time to talk to people, to listen to them. She cared about what they were interested in. That's what drove her. She was a completely selfless person."

Break in the Case:

Police release ATM video:

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina police on Saturday released an ATM surveillance picture of a person of interest in the case of a slain student body president and said it appeared to be a random killing.

"This is our biggest break so far," Chapel Hill Police Chief Brian Curran said at a press conference of the picture, which was taken from an ATM surveillance camera.

Police were seeking to identify the person of interest, who allegedly used a financial transaction card belonging to Eve Carson, a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student who was shot to death early Wednesday on a city street not far from campus.

I just saw a portion of a LE news conference. No arrests yet and they still feel it random. Apparently she stayed home to study while her friends went out at 1:30 AM. They returned about the time the body was found at 5:00 AM. Eve was killed at the spot her body was found east of her home. This was confirmed by the 911 calls of people in the neighborhood who heard the shots. Her car was found a block from her home on Thursday with no keys in it.

i was thinking this was a car-jacking, but leaving the car a block from her home doesn't sound like it huh?....if they have film of a guy using her atm card, then maybe an arrest will be coming shortly....? (or am i really far behind on this?)
