The person that can tell us about “warming up the car” and possibly Hania’s school morning rountine would be the aunt/owner of the vehicle. But I don’t recall seeing anything- possibly I’ve missed it.

In the earliest news reports (see early threads) Hania was said to have gone outside to warm the vehicle, as she had done before. We assumed this was common practice. This report was followed by an 8 year old's TV news interview where the younger child said her sister Hania took the keys to go start the vehicle, even though she was told not to. The reason for starting the vehicle is believed due to heavy, morning condensation. We also know that witnesses reported seeing Hania abducted from the driveway using the Aunts green SUV by somebody wearing dark clothing, hoodie, and a yellow bandanna across his lower face. With tips allegedly from the public, the SUV was located 4 days later hidden from view, but close to the road. FBI processed the vehicle and immediately flew evidence to FBI Lab in Quantico, VA for analysis. To my knowledge, we've had no confirmation from LE if Hania starting vehicle was common practice. I'm leaning that it was something that Hania did and this was known to her captor. MOO

Agree, great job with the research! I was curious as to how easy these are to find and purchase.
So...I don’t know what I think about the release of this “shoe information”. I thought maybe the shoes were a very expensive type, like some of my son’s basketball shoes he liked in high school or maybe my daughter’s boot choices. If so, possibly they might be sold for extra money by the perpetrators and she was given others? Maybe it’s to help identify her if she’s seen out somewhere? Maybe it’s to jar someone’s memory if they found what they thought were just regular Adidas shoes or a shoe? The customization on the back would help.
At the least, the shoe information has renewed public interest!

I see that the prices vary so between $80.oo to $180. depending what you want. But the one site said $100.oo so that is most likely what they went for. Kids shoes cost a lot, especially when they out grow them so fast. But they are nice shoes for a girl.
So I have to wonder is it is worth the risk of selling them to get $50 bucks for used shoes? I think they would just toss them.

I think if LE thinks the perp might have taken the shoes and sold them, that gives a clue of who LE thinks the perp is (in general, not specific). A middle-aged man abducting a girl isn't likely to sell her sneakers, but a young perp might.

And, I guess LE thinks the perp is someone who could use the money, no matter what the actual selling price is. $50 bucks is $50 bucks when you don't have much. Again, that sounds like a young person to me. Or, perhaps the perp gave the shoes to a sister or girlfriend.

I don't think Hania was targeted for her sneakers, but the perp took advantage of the opportunity of taking them, perhaps. Opportunistic crimes, one after another, imo: stole the car because it was there, took Hania because she was there, took her shoes because they were there.

Great research. And someone mentioned that there is one of those stores in Lumberton so that is likely the store she got them in IMO.

Any chance at all the perp may have worked at the store and just wanted those brand new shoes along with her and the car? Or maybe a friend of the perp was working there and on the lookout for the perp for the next person that bought a pair of those so he could tip off the perp to go get the shoes. Anyone working there at the shoe department may have had a way to know the purchasers name and lookup the address.

Hopefully LE has pursued this just in case. A huge long shot but you never know.

There was a case in NYC a long time ago where a boy was killed over his new tennis shoes.

The teen culture 'deals in kicks' [shoes] much like one would deal baseball cards or weed. There are lots of young men who make a living just selling adidas, nikes, etc, online from their phones. Buy them used or on sale or steal them, take a pic and out it on their site online. Meet up and make the deal...
