so many questions. seems DH is the only key who may hold the answers..

Didn't D tell the dispatcher that K was foaming at the mouth and she had blood all over her face? But then 911 tells D to put K on her back. If K was face down, how did D see she was foaming from the mouth?
It's all just so strange!

Don't focus your attention on the diet coke.
Sure, it was there in the house, so the cops took it.

the hypnosis thing might not be a bad idea if D has admitted she can't remember some parts of the evening...

It seems obvious (at least to the cops), D had company that night.
Remember the nurse on 911?
"It's very sketchy because the family(sister) thinks they might have seen somebody, but they really don't know."

Seems the "guest" could have easily had D. Why would he need to rape K?
Just thinking.......Perhaps K was calling for D and D didn't hear her, so K got up and saw D and the guest. Threatened to tell and.......
Or K was assualted sexually but not raped. But it was made to look like rape. K could have been assualted with something other than a.....
The male DNA is from the beer bottle, spoon and NOT from K's body. LE ask for DNA from the male neighbors to match it to the items.

Why KT and not D?
Maybe D went on and on to this sicko about Kathy being who she was...a very attractive socialite that rubbed elbows with Al Gore and the rich and famous. Would that get the sicko's jollies off? Would his sick, drug induced mind be attracted to a woman he knew was incapacitated by post surgery?
An easy conquest...a quick whack to the head and.......

Here's my late night theory .

Kt retired early...say 9PM
DH drove down to Glenwood Grill (by HT), locking the keys in car while still running, she met a man at the bar. At 10pm, GG was closing, so the 2 walked back up the trail to the house to party until 3AM.
What happened after 3AM is not good

i am wondering if D has no idea who this man is or how to find him again...which would make her feel even worse if she can't help police...if she indeed let someone into the house...

This is so perfectly simple to me-and right on target.

I think you are right on the money, cluciano63. I was just thinking the same thing myself. I bet D met this person maybe at GG or who knows where else....they drink and maybe do some drugs together. But, after all is said and done with, she really has no idea who he is or maybe even what his name is. There is no way to find him or to help the police track him down. Very likely, in fact. They drug and drink until the early hours, D passes out. KT calls for sis, either gets up when sis doesn't come, or perp goes into room when he realizes there is someone else in the home. KT fights, but ultimately, perp wins, and then leaves. D hazily wakes up around 3am or so, groggily walks to door and locks it, doesn't think twice that guest is gone, listens in on KT, hears her snoring and assumes she is fine. Really, KT is trying hard to breathe after attack. Sleeps it off the next AM, wakes up and checks KT, and sees what has happened. In shock, first thing she thinks is complications from surgery. As 911 call goes on, D gets noticeable more panicky. What has happened is starting to set in. By the time WakeMed calls, D has come to remember some of the night and realized what probably happened to KT. That's why she says what she says about a possible rape and maybe seeing someone....but if she doesn't know who he is, she can't help police.

I think D may actually be helping police. How else would they come up with the photo of the man with the messenger bag from the HT cameras? Any ideas anyone?

she may know that he was there and so they checked the cameras...but still not know who exactly he is? or how to find him again?

imagine if you unintentionally, through your addiction, caused your sister's death. Unimaginable pain and guilt.
You were passed out. could hypnosis help bring back the memory of what happened?

I was thinking the same thing but a friend told me that you cannot make someone say or do something under hypnosis if they are unwilling..... It will not work.

she may want to help but just can't remember enough...

i guess this is all speculation as we don't know that D had a drinking problem, do we? But there is some evidence she did drink on this fateful night? I can't help thinking about my sister, now deceased, who could have found herself in a situation like this one seems to be...if someone is addicted to drinking, often all else goes out the window...as well as all memory...

I'm sorry to hear about your sister, too, Clu...

Two bowls, two spoons, and a box of cereal. Was the guest still there in the morning and they had some breakfast together before D checked on KT?

I must say, cereal would be the last thing I'd want after a night of drinking. I'd probably be starving for some real food. But, perhaps cereal was all that was in the house?

The hotel receipt from the Lexus. KT had just gotten back from a board meeting near Roanoke Rapids. I bet she stayed in a hotel while she was up there.

Hand written notes. Notes KT had written to D because she couldn't talk due to surgery? You know, like, "I need a new ice pack." or "Adjust the pillows."

No cell phone in SW...kinda weird. Maybe D took it to the hospital with her in order to contact KT's family? So, the phone wouldn't be in the house when it was searched.

I think D may actually be helping police. How else would they come up with the photo of the man with the messenger bag from the HT cameras? Any ideas anyone?

Well, he could be just an innocent passerby who noticed the running SUV and walked over to it and looked in out of curiosity. The cameras caught him doing that...just a thought as to how he could be a red herring in all this.

ETA: I guess it would depend on which camera got the picture of him. Out in the parking lot vs inside the store.

Earlier someone mentioned a males voice on the 911 call that D made BEFORE the EMS arrived. I heard what sounded like a male voice for a second. Also, at first D says I need to go unlock the door, there's many steps and then later she says I have to go unlock the door it's not far(not exact words)

There is a male voice but I can't tell which end of the call it's coming from. I didn't hear footsteps - will listen again.

However, if someone else was in the house at the time of the call, wouldn't the search warrant say so? It did acknowledge the sister was there. Seems like it would say something like, "and another guest" or something along those lines.

diphi- I don't think they have to state anything about another guest in the SW. In the JBR case in Boulder in 1996, the FBI ended enhancing the 911 call and did end up hearing a 3rd voice in the background after PR thought she had hung up the phone with 911. The BPD didn't release this until much, much later, and analyzed this info over and over again, trying to piece together what happened that night and what was being said.
