"Names of two children whose bodies were found in a burned mobile home in northern Alexander County and also the name of their missing mother were given late Tuesday afternoon by Alexander Sheriff Chris Bowman.

Bowman said the children were identified as siblings Angel E. Pacheco, 11, and America D. Pacheco, 12, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after preliminary autopsies at the hospital. He said determination of the cause of their deaths is pending. Both bodies were burned beyond recognition.

He identified their mother as Maria Calderon, 38, and said she is missing and presumed deceased.

Heidi Darlene Wolfe, 16, of Wilkesboro, and Areli Aguirre Avilez, 30, of Taylorsville, were arrested Monday and charged with three counts each of murder in the deaths of the two Pacheco children and their mother. Authorities identified Avilez and Wolfe as boyfriend and girlfriend."

Names of deceased kids, missing mother told

"Deputies believe the prime suspect, Areli Aguirre-Avilez, 30, who is the ex-spouse of the woman who lived at the home, and his purported girlfriend, Heidi Wolfe, 16, killed the family of three inside the home before setting the house on fire."

Sheriff: Body of woman dumped in Catawba River after house set on fire with 2 children inside

I don't think the kids are his children: his last name is Avilez; the kids' last name is Pacheco, and his ex-wife's last name is Calderon. Or does one of the articles say that?

WTH is wrong with people?

I am going to guess that putting the mother in the river was in the hope of making it look like she killed her children? In other words, if she is missing/not found, and accelerant was, people would suspect her? It seems odd it says she was moved sometime over the weekend when the fire was Saturday. Maybe I misread it.

I don't know who this girls' parents are but 16 and dating a 30 year old and committing murder? We have three murders, likely statutory rape, possibly tampering with a crime scene depending on what is meant by her being moved at some point over the weekend, arson... Can she be charged as an adult at 16 in NC does anyone know?

I have to wonder what the motive for killing the children would be if they were not his. To torture the mother by doing so? Had he adopted them during the marriage possibly resulting in child support?

Whatever the motive, I would bet my last red cent it is as usual, self-motivated and in the interest of self--his--where girlie goes along and thinks she is not going to be at risk of the same thing by him one day? If this turns out incorrect, I will gladly bow down and admit it. Perhaps she had the motive, one just never knows these days...

Sad.

UPDATE: Alexander County triple homicide victims identified

Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman said he believes the 11-year-old boy, the 12-year-old girl and their mother, Maria Calderon, died at the home on Pine Meadows Lane prior to the Saturday fire and that Calderon’s body was discarded in the Catawba River at Riverbend Park. Calderon’s body was still missing Tuesday at 5 p.m.

And one of the more important points you snipped:
"Wolfe also admitted to using a Volkswagen Golf, which was seized by police Monday, to run over and kill a “little girl” as she ran from the home."

So she was in no way a minor participant.

Another case where there was a restraining order. This woman actually divorced him and filed for the order when he threatened them. Per the article.

I say it a lot but may he rot. Another real "winner". I am unsure what I think of her involvement or knowledge but I am sure LE has gotten it out of her or know.

Smh.

May this poor woman and her children RIP.

"A man and his girlfriend have been formally indicted on murder charges in the killing of a woman and her two children in Alexander County.

Maria Calderon, 38, was killed before her body was dumped somewhere in the Catawba River, officials say. Calderon’s children, 11-year-old Angel E. Pacheco and 13-year-old America D. Pacheco, were found dead in their burning home.

Tuesday, 30-year-old Areli Aguiree Avilez and his 16-year-old girlfriend, Heidi Darlene Wolfe, were each indicted on three counts of first-degree murder. They were later indicted for first-degree arson charges as well.

Avilez was also indicted one on count of violation of domestic violence order with a deadly weapon and one count of statutory rape of a child under 15. The statutory rape charge did not involve Calderon or her two children, officials say."

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office is asking boaters to be on the lookout for a missing woman whose body is believed to have been dumped in the Catawba River after she and her children were killed and their home set on fire.

“Boaters that are on Lake Hickory, Lake Lookout, Catawba River, and any waterways surrounding Alexander County are asked to help be on the lookout for anything suspicious located in the water,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Boaters are asked to call local authorities if anything is seen in the water.”

Maria Calderon Martinez was last seen on June 14 at her home in the Sugar Loaf Community of Alexander County. On June 15, officials say, that home was set on fire after Martinez and her two children - 11-year-old Angel E. Pacheco and 13-year-old America D. Pacheco - were killed.

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public assistance as they continue to look for three people who have been missing since last month and may be connected to an arson and triple homicide investigation.

Authorities are advising boaters on Lake Hickory, Lake Lookout, the Catawba River, and any waterways near Alexander County to be on the lookout for anything suspicious in the water.

Officials are still looking looking for Maria Calderon Martinez, who was last seen on June 14th, 2019 at her residence in the Sugar Loaf Community of Alexander.

Her children were found dead inside her residence after the home was set on fire.

Areli Aguirre-Avilez and his girlfriend Heidi Wolfe have been indicted on three counts of murder as a result of the investigation.

Authorities are also looking for Juan Carlos Mendez-Pena and Luis Fernando Sanchez, who were also last seen on June 14th, 2019, in the Sugar Loaf Community of Alexander County.

Officials say Mendez-Pena drives a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado, four-door, dark blue in color, with North Carolina Tags PFC-9029, which is also missing.

This is a very detailed article about the arrests, the arson, the murders of the children and of Maria, about how those involved in the murders know Maria Calderon, about a previous charge against Mr. Avilez, etc. Here is just a small part of the article:

Murder details told; ICE detainer placed

Authorities identified Avilez and Wolfe as boyfriend and girlfriend and said Avilez and Calderon were once married. Wolfe’s last known address in Wilkes is Old N.C. 18, Wilkesboro. Alexander Sheriff Chris Bowman said Wolfe had been staying with Avilez in Alexander for an undetermined length of time and she was arrested in Alexander.

Also from this lengthy article are the photos of those arrested for this horrible crime:

Five instead of three murders in Alexander?

An investigation of the murder of a mother and her two children in northern Alexander County has been expanded to include the possible murder of two men, said Alexander Sheriff Chris Bowman.

Bowman said Friday that Jose Carlos Mendez-Pena, 33, and Luis Fernando Sanchez, 36, are missing and feared murdered in connection with the murders of Maria Calderon, 38, and her son, Angel Pacheco, 11, and daughter, America Pacheco, 12. (She is listed as Maria Calderon Martinez in Alexander records.)

These articles have some more information on the additional murder victims LE is looking for.

Sheriff: Children killed execution style, two more believed dead in Alexander Co. mass murder

Now Bowman believes two more people, the mother’s boyfriend and friend, Jose Carlos Mendez and Luis Fernando Sanchez, may also be victims.

“Right now we have three unaccountable bodies,” said the Sheriff. “We know there are people out there who know something but they may be afraid to talk to law enforcement. I just want to stress they don’t need to be afraid.”

In the last few weeks new tips and leads have expended their search into Ashe and Wilkes counties.

Deputies investigating Alexander Co. triple homicide believe there are more deaths

Investigators believe their mother 38-year-old Maria Calderon Martinez was also killed at the home and said her body may have been dumped in the Catawba River. Now, they believe two other men are also dead.

Sheriff Chris Bowman said Martinez and her boyfriend Juan Mendez-Pena have not been seen or heard from since the night of the murders.

He also said no one has seen or heard from Pena's friend Luis Sanchez either, who often stayed at the home.

"It's a high probability that they are deceased," Bowman said. "At least every other day, both would report to their family in Mexico."

Since the night of the murders and arson, there have been no calls, text messages, money sent to family members, or sightings of their 2009 Chevy Silverado four-door pickup truck.

Holy cow, is it possible that it was a killing fest in that home? I guess they might have been there, and the fire was a way to destroy evidence.

And one of the more important points you snipped:
"Wolfe also admitted to using a Volkswagen Golf, which was seized by police Monday, to run over and kill a “little girl” as she ran from the home."

So she was in no way a minor participant.

Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman clarified on Thursday that investigators originally believed the body in the river was that of the 12-year-old girl but learned Tuesday that Calderon was the victim run over by the car, wrapped up and discarded in the Catawba River.
