Yet she hasn't been charged with any crime, so we can't discuss her in those terms.

And that may be due to her not being available for being charged right now, but that can't last forever. Trust me, it will happen. JMO

As a child, I was alienated from my father by my mother. I was scared of him, didn't like him or trust him, and didn't want to spend time with him. Now, as an adult, I know that it was my mom's messed up stuff that caused it, not anything my father actually did. So I can see how AW's sons might have been turned against him by the two adults they lived with. It is a common occurrence in split families.

That said, eventually the whole story will come out. We'll find out why Kristy left her children's father and her husband. We'll find out why the parents were separated for 2 years before divorcing this June. We'll find out what the boys experienced before and after the break up. Were they used as pawns by one or both parents? Were they isolated from everyone, including Kristy's mom? We'll hear from their teachers. BTW, I was able to watch a video of Mariah reading with her mom, in the presence of a teacher. Looked like a preschool special ed type of home visitation. Can't see the video any more, but I remembered someone asked about Mariah in preschool.

Sadly, it happens all the time and I'm sorry it happened to you.

With divorce and kids some parents let their emotions rule their actions/words and the kids end up suffering because of it. When bad or negative things are said to a kid about a parent that kid will think a part of them is bad since they are a part of that parent. It's just not good.

What follows is all my opinion based on my experiences. Given the geographic location and local culture of where this crime occurred, I would guess that folks just don't know what is and is not appropriate to talk about with reporters, and that they are heavily influenced by being the center of attention and wanting to be involved, help, and be "in the know."
I'm thinking of how reporters would be held in esteem (they are on TV, they are important, you want to talk to reporters).
I am thinking of how the attention would feel, to folks that are usually not paid attention to.
I am thinking of how people might feel, after being victimized (or feeling they were victimized) by the CPS system.
I am thinking of how men sometimes react when domestic stuff happens. i.e. father who's wife leaves with kids sometimes gives up, feels powerless, and struggles to navigate the system. Add in financial woes, and I can see how a year could go by without seeing the kids.
And then you have the child-rearing practices in communities of poverty, low education, and rural south. (i.e. the video others have referenced of cookie decorating where the AW calls a son a "douche" because he dropped a cookie. Very typical way of fathers interacting with sons in this kind of a setting. It's tough love, rough, kind of rude.). Parenting to make your kids tough. (I am talking from my own experience in similar communities, watching my dad's family, and being a teacher).
I have no doubt that AW would be considered a good solid father in his community.
I also have no doubt that if you transplanted him into a middle-class community in a city, he would stand out like a cactus.

True, but given the fact that they were returned to the abuser (EK for sure) last year after speaking out, would they have any assurance they wouldn't returned and punished for what they reported? One of the boys had just gotten punched in the face by EK the day before Mariah disappeared, they had to have been so scared. Such bravery for them to be Mariah's voice.

So true, all of it. Bless their hearts. It's just heartbreaking. I hope the powers-that-be does right by these boys. They can't let them down again. :(

Then we'll agree to disagree. The center of the spotlight is Mariah and her brothers. Right now, the mother is still just as much a victim as the father. If the father wants to make public comments which could possibly be used against him in the future concerning the custody of his sons, that's up to him.
It is astonishing to me that you can actually say that the mother is as innocent as the father is at this time. It was the mother who brought this man into her children's lives, not the father. It was the mother who covered for her BF abuse of her son, when he had belt marks over his body, she told Child Services that he fell from bunk beds. This proves that she is more than willing to cover for her man over the well being of her children. There is so much more going to come out about her actions regarding Mariah's death. I can wager that absolutely nothing further will come out about her father's involvement.

Well exactly, if (from his perspective) these allegations have effectively been ignored once, of course he wants to do everything to ensure it's not ignored again. Of course he's going to read that report and want more charges brought asap.

It's not the best way to go about it, but I do feel that it's understandable.

I'm thousands of miles away and just an onlooker, I can step back and say this isn't a good idea and that LE and the DA will get the report and take care of any more charges that need to be brought, and CPS is now going to be under extra scrutiny and will make a better decision this time (which might not be him anyway), but he's raw with all these emotions and desperation, you can't expect him to be able to stand back and look at this objectively and rationally, at least not without a lot of help.

Where is all of his help coming from? Therapists he is paying for? Who exactly would that be?

But you have based it all on an Unconfirmed CPS report that was on a shill news show.

Until the mother is named as a POI or charged with a crime by LE, what we think about her actions or lack of actions is not allowed on this forum. We need to be patient.

I think I might have an idea of what you are inferring by her "not being available" but she was at her trailer this evening (Dec 4, 5:12pm)....LE was there also.

The crime scene tape was lifted at the Dawson Cabin Creek home Monday night.

At 5:12 p.m., a white Dodge Durango SUV pulled up to the house and a woman got out of the passenger’s side to an awaiting Onslow County Sheriff’s deputy. They walked to the front door of the home and emerged 10 minutes later before the deputy escorted the woman back to the vehicle.

The woman, who deputies identified as Kristy Woods, covered her head and face with a hooded sweatshirt and would not respond to questions from The Daily News.

Don't assume that I have confirmed any information of any of your "perceived" notions of a shill news show. I always do my research and homework before I venture to put forth my opinion. This is not my first rodeo, sweetie.

I think you just broke a rule.

He doesn’t have the right to give confidential CPS reports to the media, and I’m sure the judge overseeing his custody trial is going to care. You can be a good person and make a bad decision, but there’s no rational argument that publishing confidential CPS reports detailing the graphic abuse of minor children is helpful to anyone except tabloid media looking for ratings. “Period.”

This is very disconcerting to me. In MN where I lived, fathers who had been accused of sex abuse still got their children. A father who was 30 impregnated a 14 year old girl. He served time as a sex offender but yet got to have his daughter when the mother abandoned her.

Yet a father distraught over the horrifying doings of CPS is going to lose his children because of releasing a report? SMH

I haven't seen anyone assume that if the mother is charged that the father is a good parent. Let's not try to put words into anyone's mouth in order to villify the father. Actually, he may not be deemed to be fit to have custody over the boys. That's neither here nor there. Has absolutely nothing to do with this case but will be determined later, all on it's own merit.
He was deemed fit by CPS to take the boys the first time, hopefully that has not changed for any reason.

For the life of me, I still do not understand why any man would move in with an unemployed woman who has 3 or 4 toe-headed kids? What is it the booty or his share of the beans and potatoes?

She gave him all the power. Probably took care of him, cooking, laundry, etc., and made him feel like a man. Ick!

Where is all of his help coming from? Therapists he is paying for? Who exactly would that be?

Many states have a victims advocate, and victims compensation fund....does NC? The state should have funding for parenting classes, legal aid, etc for those that are disadvantage and are victims. Considering he and his sons are victims of a horrific crime, the state should offer assistance to them all. Whether it will or not remains to be seen.

Question: Those CPS documents. Would LE be given those before the parents? Same time? After? Seperate/Additional report intended only for LE? Same documents?

How does that generally work?
