So it had to be someone who'd attended the older brothers party the night before. I've forgotten, was dad home in bed that night also, or was she left with just the brothers? What a tragedy, at home, in her own bed.

Thank God! I'd almost given up hope on this one. Perhaps it took them that long to get a DNA sample from the perp? People are very savvy to that anymore- KWIM?

Howard Jones, the suspect's grandfather, identified him as 14-year-old Antonio Trey Jones.

"If he done it, I'm glad they got him. That's all I can say," said Jones.

The teen lived with his grandfather and his father next to the Sessoms' home. Another family member said Trey had spoken in a vulgar way to McKenzie and had been banned from the girl's home.

A senseless tragedy, and I hope the kid confessed and pleads guilty to save the family even more pain. Fourteen years old!

I assumed the dad was home, but actually all we know for sure is that he was the one to try waking her up in the morning.

But it sounds like, and I am speculating based on the WTVD article, the kid snuck in in the night because he lived next door and had supposedly been banned from McKenzie's house. Which is pretty bold since the father and brother were both there. Very strange. I hope they have solid DNA evidence.

Saw a couple photos of the perp on the local news tonight. He looked like a little boy. Could it have taken this long to identify because he wasn't even considered a possible suspect? They supposedly have DNA from the rape.

I never suspected a minor as the perp.The Sampson Sheriffs office sure kept a lid on this and has taught me to be more patient with an investigation but it is hard to do when a childs rape and murder are involved. I have an overwhelming need to cry right now and cant wait to be back home. There is a six hour difference but I will try to come back on later to be with all of you.Justice for Mckenzie!

I wonder why the move to Franklin Co. And how recent? Hope the confession holds up,family says he was questioned without an adult.Family seems to be in protective mode and most likely will lawyer up and fight this.You can bet I will be there. So dna was taken by party goers,why could they not tell us that?

Boodles,I think you are correct in he may not have not been at the party but snuck in after and dna was only collected from partygoers.They must have been following him for the dna,can they do that if he is a minor? Seriously is this the only pic they could come up with?

Oh boy, just saw those updates to the story...looks like this is going to get complicated. Hope the sheriff and DA have all their i's dotted and t's crossed.

Whew..... finally!!!!!

Now we have to worry about the successful prosecution of a developmentally disabled, socially inept, 14 year old who has no impulse-control. McKenzie deserves justice & the boy may be very dangerous to others if not closely monitored.

So sorry for the confusion! I saw the news article on my phone and came on Websleuths to see if anyone had posted it. Nothing showed up, so I added the news article and some comments, but when I posted, I saw that several others had already done so and were discussing. So as to not create more confusion, I tried to delete what I had posted, but could not do so on my phone, so just removed what I had originally typed.
