Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced Tuesday afternoon that the man known as the “Ski-mask Rapist” had been captured after the cases went unsolved for more than 30 years.

According to a CMPD release, the department’s Sexual Assault Cold Case Unit late last year connected a series of rape cases from 1979 that had gone unsolved because police had not been able to positively identify a suspect.

On Tuesday, police found Brooks in Horry County. He was arrested and is currently being housed in the Horry County Jail pending extradition, police said.

According to the Surfside Police Department, Brooks was arrested in his rented beach condo at 2:30 p.m.

Does anyone believe he quit raping for 30 years? I think they need to start checking when he moved to SC and what he has been doing while living there.

Cool! DNA will getcha, every time. Imagine the sinking feeling this guy had when the police told him what he was being arrested for.

I wonder if this is the same Jerry Lee Brooks. If it is, he might have spent time in prison and that might be the reason he stopped the rapes in Charlotte.

Thanks for the thread JeannieC! There is no telling where this man has been.
I hope Horry County PD and surrounding LEAs are looking into this rapist for sexual assaults and disappearances that have occured in the area since 2005.
IMO, he should be questioned in the disappearance of Brittanee Drexel.

I love news like this!

Me too!

I know some state crime labs are behind in entering DNA into the data base, but it surely does help catch criminals!

I guess this guy thought if he just moved away and 'laid low' he would get away with these rapes. He just got a big wakeup call!!

I hope that they can trace every place he's been (not including prison).
