There is real danger that, if the delays continue, Garcia might walk. His defense could claim he has been denied a speedy trial. That possibility is mentioned toward the end of the article. Wouldn't that be wonderful. Really makes my faith in the system stronger.

This whole post arrest process has been a disgrace.

That would be a nightmare.

Trial starts Monday according to WOWT Omaha. Sorry I don't know how to copy/paste.

I plan to post updates as needed. Probably not daily. I expect a lot of stuff not previously known to the public will come out. I feel for the Hunters and the other families who have to sit through this ordeal. I fully expect Garcia's defense to appeal any verdict other than not guilty.

FWIW, I received a Jury summons recently and wondered if I was going to be selected for that trial- I would have tried to recuse myself. Turned out I didn't get called.

Tink, thanks for saving me the trouble of posting this. The online version is good but the print version was even better. Seeing all the details in print sort of made an impact on me.

The court proceedings will not be streamed so far as I know. I hope to post updates frequently.

I noted that the linked article apparently was not enabled for viewers to leave comments. Probably not a bad idea. Most of those I have seen fall into two categories; people making inflammatory comments about how they'd like to see Garcia dead and more disturbing to me- those who seem to think he is being framed. One guy like this has been all over all the stories alleging that he 'knows' Garcia is innocent, at least of the Dundee murders. Someone recently responded telling him to put up or shut up. He never replied.

Quadruple-murder defendant Anthony Garcia is believed to have paid a six-figure sum for his defense team — the attorneys who call themselves Team Motta of Chicago.

Now, as his trial got underway Monday, his defense attorneys said he’s out of money — and they’re laying the groundwork for taxpayers to pay for at least part of the rest of his defense.

Defense attorneys filed a motion Monday asking Judge Gary Randall to declare Garcia indigent. That is a prerequisite before the judge can determine whether taxpayers should help pay legal experts or Garcia’s attorneys.

I was going to post a link to local coverage of the first day but- it is not too interesting. Mostly they are slogging through jury selection. I'd anticipate that will take all this week.

I previously mentioned the jury summons I received- I had not been served with one in more than 30 years. I still suspect I could have wound up in the pool for this trial and wouldn't that have been ironic. I played the 'over 65' card to get excused.

More to follow when something interesting starts happening.

Thanks Snick & everyone else for posting updates to this thread. Such sad memories return as I read all the articles about these murders and the trial. Damn, I don't recall reading about the female doctor who could have been another victim, along with her daughter - or maybe I just forgot over time. This Garcia dude is scary.......praying that he gets the justice deserved.

IMO the prosecution's case is much stronger for the Brumbachs than for the Dundee murders. We could get a hung decision on the later. I'd be ok with that if he can get nailed on the second murders. It'd be nice if they could get a conviction on both, if only for the sake of the families.

Snick- thank you so much for the updates. I appreciate it!

Prosecution rests: http://www.omaha.com/news/crime/gar...cle_a474ff0a-9609-11e6-abc6-637b1053514e.html

"In addition, investigators found handwritten notes with lists of to-do’s and cryptic writings on other topics. One of them, written the day before his arrest, made reference to calling the Omaha Police Department. Another referenced apparent plans to travel to New Orleans and to Canada and also included mention of a gun."

Hi everyone! Thank you all for the updates. What is this about a dead woman's face being disfigured at Creighton? I hadn't heard that! Garcia is a real sicko who apparently likes cutting on people. IMO the evidence against him is damning.

(Good reading you all again)
