A one-year-old child has died after being left in a hot car outside a daycare centre in Omaha, Nebraska, while in the city reached 36 degrees Celsius (96.8 Fahrenheit).

Ra’Miyah Worthington was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in a critical condition at around 3pm local time on Monday afternoon, after a Kidz of the Future Child Development Center employee called 911.

The baby was given CPR during the journey to the hospital, but first responders were unable to resuscitate her.

Ra’Miyah had been found in a van which is registered to the owner of the Kidz of the Future Child Development Center, according to multiple reports.

This vehicle had transported the baby girl and her two siblings to the daycare centre earlier that morning.

The child’s grieving parents, Sina Johnson and Rianna Worthington, said that Ra’Miyah’s temperature had reached 109 degrees Celsius.

In an interview with Omaha television station WOWT, Mr Worthington said: “I’m not comprehending how this could have even possibly happened.”

“My thing is how can you forget a kid that you yourself put into the vehicle?” he asked.

Medical personnel transported the child to the Nebraska Medical Center, where the child was declared dead, according to authorities.

Investigators arrested the van driver, 62-year-old Ryan Williams, for child abuse by neglect resulting in death.

Authorities told KETV NewsWatch 7 that Williams was driving the van for Kidz of the Future Childcare.

Ryan Williams is charged with child abuse by neglect resulting in death after he allegedly left 1-year-old Ra'Miyah Worthington in a van to die in the heat.

The prosecution detailed her death in court, saying when she was found her temperature was 109 degrees, and she was never revived.

Prosecutors said Williams was responsible for picking up and dropping off kids to the daycare, located near 51st and Leavenworth streets.

Prosecutors said 10 kids were picked up and nine were dropped off in August 2023.

Williams' defense argued the daycare director Keesha Wesson told Williams to leave after discovering the toddler's body.

She took the stand showing pictures of the van and a list of kids on the morning route.

The defense argued that Williams had not received the necessary training.
