I wonder why Iguana's have two penises instead of just the ability to grow one back.

I had a male iguana, Archie, for many years. He was never caged in his lifetime and was a wonderful companion as well as friends with the cats.

The reason they have two; In the wild they often come upon a clutch of females. This allows them a no-waiting-inbetween chance to fertilize more then one female at a time.

I wish I'd never seen the article. I have an iguana and whenever I feed him now I'm thinking - I hope it's a girl.

Again, I have had iguanas for many years. It really is quite easy to determine their sex if they are over a year old.

For those of you who didn't watch the video, the iguana was in the middle of mating when he was jilted by his partner. He then got an infection, so the doctors decided to amputate it. They only showed "it" very briefly

Great. Now amongst the iguana community there will be the line "But sweetie, you can't just tease me like that, or they'll cut it off!"

Same as human teen girls are told that blue balls can be deadly. :crazy:


Maybe she noted the beginning of an infection prior and decided she wanted no part of it! Just like the carpeting in my workplace says "Inspect tools and equipment regularly!"
