Amid U.S. coronavirus surges, Cuomo considers slowing NYC's reopening

“I want to continue to move forward, but we may move forward with caution,” Cuomo said in an interview with local cable news station.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned Monday that he might tap the brakes on New York City’s reopening amid “troubling signs” that some are flouting social-distancing rules to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“Our numbers are good, very good right now, but there are troubling signs,” Cuomo said in an interview with local cable channel NY1. “We’re seeing large social gatherings on sidewalks, et cetera, which is not helpful.”...

NYC mayor's fund raises more than $50 million for Covid-19 emergency relief

The mayor’s fund to advance New York City has raised $54.5 million for Covid-19 emergency relief. Over 9,000 donors contributed to this fund to help frontline workers and vulnerable New Yorkers, Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

The funds will also assist in saving businesses, aid immigrants and support youth.

The Restaurant Revitalization Program will be part of the fund, which will support 1,000 unemployed and underemployed restaurant workers, and approximately 100 restaurants.

The city also is creating micro-grants to directly support survivors of domestic violence, adding that “the pandemic has brought new horrors for those who shelter in place with an abusive partner”, an official said.

The immigrant emergency relief fund has so far provided 13,000 households across 180 zip codes representing 41,000 New Yorkers with one time emergency financial relief.

Governor Cuomo Announces New COVID Rental Assistance Program

Governor Andrew Cuomo today announced an emergency rental assistance program that will help keep low-income families throughout New York in their homes. The program, which is designed to reach those individuals and families with the greatest need, will provide direct aid for tenants who lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is funded through the Coronavirus Relief Fund, which is part of the CARES Act. The program is administered by New York State Homes and Community Renewal and access to program applications will be available here on Thursday, July 16.

"Since day one we made it clear that no New Yorkers should be thrown on the streets because of hardships caused by this pandemic," Governor Cuomo said. "It's critically important that people are able to stay safely in their homes as we progress through our data-driven, phased reopening, and the COVID Rent Relief Program reinforces that commitment with direct assistance to those in the greatest need."

Governor Cuomo Announces Orange County Micro-Cluster Focus Area Meets Metrics to Exit "Red Zone"

“The governor also announced that counties, via their local departments of health, will now be allowed to require that mask mandates be extended at all times in both public and private schools under their jurisdictions.

"In terms of adjustments of the micro-clusters, Orange County has made very good progress," Governor Cuomo said. "In Orange County we're going to change the red zone to an orange zone. In Orange County, the red zone was at 12 percent three weeks ago. It's now 2 percent, so that's obviously dramatic progress. And the hospitalization number is flat. The red zone will go to orange and the yellow zone will stay yellow. There has been progress in other areas in micro-clusters, but nothing at this point that would cause us to change any classifications this week. We'll watch it over the next week for possible alterations. Nationwide, our positivity rate is now the second lowest in the United States of America. We've actually made progress nationwide. We are 1.3 percent and in the Johns Hopkins nationwide state survey we are number 2 from the bottom, second lowest rate in the nation. God bless New Yorkers. But let's stay vigilant because as we are seeing with the surges around the country, this thing is not over."”

Governor Cuomo Updates New Yorkers on State's Progress During COVID-19 Pandemic

“Positive Testing Rate in All Focus Zone Areas is 4.19 Percent

New York State Positivity Outside All Focus Zone Areas is 2.50 Percent

Statewide Positivity Rate is 2.80 Percent

"”COVID-19 is spreading in New York, and the increased number of cases is taking place throughout the state. This is not an Upstate or downstate issue—all New Yorkers, regardless of where they live, have cause for concern," Governor Cuomo said. "We are continuing to use a comprehensive micro-cluster strategy and increase our testing capacity to new heights. However, our success also depends on the vigilance and smart behavior of New Yorkers. Wash your hands, stay socially distanced and wear a mask. Local governments, do the enforcement. We're going to get through this pandemic, but only if we do it together and stay New York Tough."“

Cuomo addresses the Parcare vaccine scandal. The investigation has been handed over to NY Attorney General Letitia James. There will be strong penalities, including criminal charges and fines, for anyone who attempts to defraud the vaccine prioritization and distribution process.

Cuomo announces stricter penalties for COVID-19 vaccine fraud as ParCare Community Health Network denies wrongdoing

“Gov. Andrew Cuomo says anyone who engages in coronavirus vaccine fraud could face up to a $1 million fine and lose their license.
The governor's announcement came after ParCare Community Health Network reportedly obtained coronavirus vaccine doses fraudulently.
Investigators say some of the doses, meant for health care workers and the elderly, may have went to the general public.“

“The majority of the vaccines have been given back to the state as a criminal investigation is underway.“

“On Saturday, New York State’s health commissioner, Dr. Howard Zucker, announced an investigation into the clinics, which he said “may have fraudulently obtained Covid-19 vaccine, transferred it to facilities in other parts of the state in violation of state guidelines and diverted it to members of the public.”

“We take this very seriously, and D.O.H. will be assisting state police in a criminal investigation into this matter,” he said.”

Did These New York Clinics Ignore Rules on Who Gets Vaccinated First?

“New York Attorney General Letitia James said her office is opening an investigation into ParCare over the allegations.

"My office is launching an investigation into ParCare over allegations that it wrongfully distributed and administered COVID-19 vaccines," James said. "In order for the vaccine to be most effective in protecting our communities, we must all follow the same distribution plan. We will not tolerate any attempts to circumvent that process."“
