I'm embarrassed to say I didn't know about this case since a student where I work, Danielle Wright, was on this missing vessel. I saw banners for a fundraiser for the search on campus today and googled it. This the same university that Mickey Shunick attended and it was surreal to see another "missing" banner on the fences on Cajundome Blvd, where Mickey's missing banners were last summer. Very sad to have two such promising young women disappear (and in Mickey's case, to have been murdered. I am hoping against all odds that Danielle is out there and can be found.

Her parents are trying to raise $300,000 to fund the new search.

Hmm. I hope they're able to continue using satellite images to track where it may be. There must be someone who would let them use their plane to look...but planes that could cover that distance might be few - or not civilian owned. Bummer. I really hope the families can have closure. I wonder if NOAA can help.

Just read all about this missing ship. So sad to hear. I do hope they are still alive and can be found. There is some hope because if the ship is still upright and was not overturned, then I am sure they had fishing equipment and they could catch fish to eat. For water, I am sure they have ways on ships to collect rain water with tarps, so even water should not be a problem too much so long as enough rain fell.

So, I do hope they have not capsized and are just drifting waiting on rescue. It is a terrible ordeal for all involved, so prayers for them and their families.

I went deep sea fishing once and never thought much about being stranded at sea until that trip. Once we left the docks and were out at sea, it became apparant that if the ship sunk or had trouble, it was a very large ocean and the dangers are very real. We ended up having a great time fishing and all was well. I would probably even go again if given the chance, but it was a little unnerving being out in the ocean.

I suppose it is like other adventures in life. You either choose to take an adventure with the known risks or you choose not to and play it safe but not get to enjoy an adventure like that. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether they are willing to choose to accept the risks to enjoy an adventure like that.

I do hope they find this ship.

This is a little different than what we usually deal with here, but the story behind it is interesting, and sad.

Danielle Wright is a 19 year old young lady that has been missing since May 28th, 2013. Danielle is a psychology and criminal justice major at The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She had just completed her sophomore year in college when an opportunity to sail the South Pacific was given to her. Wright, along with 6 other people set sail on a ship called "The Nina" from the port city of Opua, New Zealand, on May 28 for a journey to Sydney, Australia. The Nina, piloted by an experienced sailor and family friend, David Dyche III, should have reached Sydney in 20 to 40 days. Friday marked the 45th day since Nina set sail.

In June, a message was sent from The Nina asking about bad weather. That was the last time any passengers and her crew on The Nina where heard from again.

We have a thread on WS for Danielle & the other 6 passengers on the Nina who went missing at sea:

Danielle studied where I work. I hope her parents can find closure for their family and the families of others (obviously I want the Nina's crew to be found alive, but either way, I hope they get answers). When Australian officials stopped searching, Danielle's dad & mom went to Australia, where her dad got his pilot's license & searches for her using borrowed planes (her family is of some considerable financial means but have also held fundraisers as the costs are astronomical). Her parents are super determined. Danielle is lucky to have parents who won't stop looking for her (and have the means to do so).

Does anyone have the Tomnod link that connects directly with this particular search?
Have been on Tomnod searching for the missing Smith plane in Idaho and I think it is an invaluable tool !
