He was under police supervision?? We know how well that worked out.

If he was known to police, I wonder if he was also known to his neighbours. Or were they oblivious to the danger in their community?

The post is gone - probably because he was named.

Correct that the Page is gone.

Page is indeed gone, he was named again. I googled his name, he has a bad history and he's still quite young. Name isn't familiar though, glad he's off the streets.

I got the impression his neighbours were oblivious to his past, its not like you could bring it up in a chat lol. He lived near schools, which is a worry, due to his past history.

Blessie's family thank public for help

The grieving husband and children of murdered North Shore mum Blessie Gotingco have thanked the public and media for helping find her body and assisting the police investigation.

Speaking from their Birkdale home, where friends have been calling to pay their respects throughout the day, Antonio Gotingco said the publicity around his wife's disappearance had helped "in trying to track down the perpetrator and trying to solve the case".

His son, Vincent, agreed: "We're thankful to the media for getting the story out.''

The light of his life has gone and his family has been robbed of the best mother and grandmother, the husband of slain Auckland woman Blesilda "Blessie" Gotingco says.

Antonio Gotingco said the family had moved to New Zealand from the Philippines because they thought it was "the safest place to live".

Her death had shaken that belief, but he was heartened by the sympathy and prayers New Zealanders had offered his family as they grieved, he said.

Antonio Gotingco has a strong religious faith and said everything happened for a reason.

"I believe my wife is an instrument to awaken the whole country that the environment is changing and that we need to start making an effort to protect our neighbours," he said.

Police would have been able to come down this hard and fast on the alleged perp if he was wearing one of these, and he could say bye bye to any denial of where he was and when.

The Sensible Sentencing Trust is disappointed the information has been suppressed.

"It was predictable but we completely oppose it - we talk about an open and transparent justice system but it's not," says spokesperson Ruth Money.

"The problem with name suppression is that there's a whole lot of finger-pointing going on now - the problem is now everyone's wondering who and where and what went on."

Ms Money says the alleged murderer was not widely known in the local community, and this is causing many to worry about their safety.

"We are getting overwhelmed with people coming to us about him - members of the public and police," she says.

"We have been overwhelmed with contact from the public concerned about who it was and if they had interacted with this person."

The person's name has been floating around fb for a couple of days now, he has a bad history and I am surprised he was allowed to live where he did.

What a beautiful woman - and the spirit of her husband is truly an inspiration. You can tell she really touched everyone that knew her in a positive way. Truly a tragic loss.

Husband not holding death of childhood sweetheart against his adopted country

The husband of murder victim Blessie Gotingco says despite the tragic circumstances of her death, the family still believe New Zealand is a safe country.

With son Vincent and daughter Bea at his side yesterday, Antonio Gotingco said he had bragged about his adopted home overseas.

"I'm sure a lot of people here in New Zealand were touched by the way my wife died, the manner that it was done, [but] I still believe that New Zealand is a safe country," he said. "In fact, I keep on bragging overseas that New Zealand is very much better in terms of safety and security than the Philippines. But it just happened to us."

Antonio Gotingco flew back to New Zealand from a business trip in the Philippines on Tuesday, and says police couldn't have done more to find his wife.

"Me and my family are really happy with the support that they have extended to us since we reported that my wife Blessie was missing. I think they are the best police force in the whole world and I would like to personally thank them for that."

He also thanked the public for their support.

"We've been receiving very kind words, we've been receiving a lot of sympathies," he told RadioLIVE. "I think all of this has really helped us… we are really thankful to the people of New Zealand."

The Sensible Sentencing Trust (SST) is urging New Zealand communities to become pro-active and get to know their neighbours.

"In light of the tragic death of, Blessie Gotingco, we are asking communities nationwide to look out for each other and get to know your neighbours," Ruth Money Spokesperson for the Trust says.

Currently SST has an Offenders Database run by volunteers that lists criminals and their convictions, however SST are calling on the Ministry of Justice to develop a database that enables the general public to access all open court files on offenders.
