Mr. Noatak,

Long ago (the early 1970's) I lived for a year in Jaffrey; I have not done a Mapquest search yet for the distance between where Maura disappeared and Jaffrey, but I'm guessing it's at least 100 miles each way.

Would you care to share with us another detail or two as to the basis for bringing "The Jaffrey Connection" into play here?

Thank you for a most interesting post!

My opinions only, no facts here:

I think the distance might be 90 miles. Obviously, you know the area if you can quote 100 miles from memory! I am from a place far away, so I have no historical or topical insight whatsoever.

Very early on, I developed a theory about this case. Presenting this theory would violate the protocol of Websleuths. I am not being obtuse or provocative; it is a fact that I would violate the site's policies.

I try to look at everyone named in a case (witnesses, suspects, persons of interest, etc.) as well as their relatives or possible relatives, and even unnamed people if the town is small enough. My hope is that I can come up with someone of an appropriate sex, age, and criminal background to fit a profile that is compatible with the case.

If you haven't already please present this theory to the authorities/detectives handling the case. It sounds like you may be onto something. Maybe the authorities could use some fresh ideas. You never know where a theory may lead.

This case sure is a mindbender.

I believe people who knew the School Bus Driver are convinced he was nothing but a good Samaritan who happened along and tried to help someone at a minor crash scene. If it appears that his rendition of events changed from those initially reported that evening (if they changed at all) then perhaps if was for safety and self-preservation. Maybe someone passed along or hinted to SBD that MM was abducted by a known local (, drug dealer, biker) bad guy or guys and locals are afraid of this person with good reason. If you had vulnerable loved ones in that situation you might consider being a tad more clandestine about your opinions, or perhaps SBD just got sick of being badgered by everyone as to why he didn’t do more for MM at that time. That might lead some to speculate that his behavior was odd… but I don’t think many sense SBD is culpable in any way.

So SBD backs his bus into his driveway, goes inside and asks his domestic partner to call in the accident. He knows that the police will be along and will probably want some information to add to their accident report so… he sits in his bus, fills out his daily trip sheet and waits for LE. If MM had passed by on foot trying to obtain a better cell phone signal, SBD probably would have asked her in for tea. Maybe the abductor(s) snatched MM before SBD got back outside or maybe they drove right past by him?

If the SAR dog lost the trail by SBD’s house it might be because she was in the abductor’s vehicle. It would also depend on whether the SAR dog was a “tracker”, an “air-scenter” or other.

and this is where I personally can not be 100% convinced that SBD had nothing to do with her disappearance. BA goes in the house to make a call then comes back out. Here are some questions that I would have had if I was LE and was interviewing BA and just some questions in general.

1. How long were you in the house
2. Did you leave your bus running when you went inside
3. Do you normally back your bus into your driveway
4. Did you have a clear view of Maura's car when you came back out?
5. Did you see Maura when you came back out?
6. Do you normally sit in freezing weather in your bus to do your paper work
7. While sitting in your bus was it running and did you have the heater on
8. How long did you stay in the bus?
9. Where you in your bus when LE arrived
10. Did you walk down to LE and tell them what you had witnessed and that you called 911
11. What time did you leave your bus to go back in your house

This is just off the top of my head. Maura disappeared within minutes after BA left the scene. I'm having just a little trouble believing that BA didn't come back out to see what transpired. If she did disappear in front of his house then if it was before he got back out he should have noticed she was gone IF and I say IF he had a clear view of her car. It certainly could not have been after or he most likely would have seen her. In fact I would have to think that he def would have seen her if she was that close to his driveway.

Good questions! Oh to be the proverbial fly on the wall. It's sheer conjecture on my behalf but I think BA didn't want to be intrusive, so he had his wife call for help, maybe had a peek down the road (300 feet or so as per the Google map) and still saw the Saturn's flashers and no EMS team yet, so waited in his bus to see if he could be of further assistance.

I think there's just so much more to go on -- Red Truck sighting(s), neighbour's accounts, the tracking of the SAR dog...

It may have been very difficult for him to see from that distance in the dark. It is very dark on that road. You can't see your hand in front of your face. There are only street lights at the intersections. Although, since that curve where her accident happened was so sharp, maybe there is a light there too. I guess it's worth checking out to be sure. He could have assumed she was sitting there in the vehicle, trying to call AAA. I believe he advised her to put her emergency flashers when he talked to her. I wonder if she did this.

I see JR has posted something supposedly posted by MM back in 1998.

Notice her web name versus what she mentioned in her note...

This info is not all that newly discovered. It popped up for me in a regular Google search in 2006. Sixteen year-old Maura was most likely posting from her mom's computer and email account.

I've always thought that the Vasi incident was unconnected. The fact that Maura had two accidents that we know about makes "cars" and "accidents" a kind of theme, so I can see why people have raised those questions over the years.

My opinions only, no facts here:

Look for off-and-on or permanent residents of the area where Maura disappeared, around the time the crime occurred, who had a prior criminal record, that included violence towards women. This prior criminal record does not necessarily have to be in New Hampshire. Ignore all of the named witnesses in the case. As was said in the movie "Total Recall", open your mind. Look beyond the remarkable amount of white noise surrounding this case.

Coincidently after I posted the above questions that I would have liked to ask BA I read something on another forum about him that I had never seen before. I will post it later. It mentioned something about him parking his bus that night in a different area than he usually did and something about a street light near where he always parked.

I believe there is no connection to Vasi, too. Anonymous commentors on JR's blog insist there are no pubs on the corner of Triangle and Matoon..which is technically correct if you're going to split hairs. A simple google map search shows that The Amherst Pub (est. 1968) is very close. One could walk down the alley behind Pray Street or shortcut through the cemetery 500 feet and get to the corner of Matoon.

I came upon it too. Her comment on that site struck me as very sweet.

JR's lastest blog:
"Was Maura a Victim of the Connecticut Valley Killer?"
http://mauramurray.blogspot.com/

I don't think there is - can't imagine him just happening to be in the same area at the same time when MM car crashed.

I see JR got a reply to the West Point professor he reached out to - Wow! This is a must read!

Interesting to say the least! It's certainly possible the wife of the "albino" was telling tales though. I wish I could meet these people to get a better idea on how they come across. I also found the comments interesting. Apparently, RF the contractor refused to have his property searched. I wonder why he had an issue with that? Sometimes perfectly innocent people will refuse to have their property searched, but when they say "no" it always makes me wonder if they are hiding something.
