Scoops, just because Maura was looking at different areas right up until the time she left didn't mean she had no idea where she was going when she got into her car. Obviously she did know once she started down the road. Remember that Maura told her school she would be gone for a week so maybe Maura and her "friend" were planning on hiking to different areas over the course of a week. Maybe she had a set course to take as far as which trails and mountains to climb and in what order. This could be the answer as to why she was "all over the place" on her computer.
We can both agree that once Maura got out of amherst, she had a destination in mind.
But there was a lot of search activity vie mapquest etc.. that maura was doing right up until the point she got in her car and left the campus.
And it would be one thing, if she was searching for a place to stay and varied her search between hotels, condos, etc... that were in a certain area, but to be searching places in two entirely different states hours apart from one another, at least to me doesn't sound like a person who has made up their mind yet on where to go.
even though Maura searched for destinations in two different states, each place she searched all had the common link of being right next to or into a mountain/hiking destination.
Her father had been quoted has telling his children a possible way he might take his own life one day was to take a bunch of alcohol and head for the mountains.
But I guess that could all just be a very bad coincidence or something her father didn't want her or his other children to read too much into. Both Maura and her dad were pasionate about the mountains though.
