On the morning of the day of his disappearance on Tuesday April 23, 2024, Yannis Karabatsis called a taxi which he got into at 7 a.m. from the intersection near his home. He told the driver who took him to drop him off at Pteleos Square to take the KTEL bus to Volos. During the ride, he seemed agitated. The taxi driver left him there and didn't see where he was going.
Then the missing person was seen by another witness, KEP employee Pteleos, wandering in front of his uncles' house. He took him to the car, but when he realized he was confused, he turned around and took him back to the same place. In fact, he warned his aunt, but by the time she came to pick him up, the man had disappeared.
She immediately called him on the phone but he reassured her. He told her he was fine and was running some errands in the square. Shortly after 9 a.m., his uncle called him. The missing person told him he was at the oil mill, didn't know how to get out of there and hung up.
When the KEP employee and community leader then rushed to the scene, they found him nowhere. All they found was his dark jacket behind some crates. In the pockets was his wallet, no money, with his bank card and his ID. At the main entrance to the olive mill, they found the bags containing the items he had taken from the village kiosk and mini-market, which are still there today.
According to his uncle and aunt, everything changed the day he received 20,000 euros from the sale of the property he inherited. They consider this to be sufficient reason for some to harm him.
