Authorities will offer a $50,000 reward for information that helps them to solve the case of John Weisbecker, the 21-year-old seasonal cook who mysteriously disappeared from his Ocean City home one year ago.

The FBI, Ocean City police and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office will discuss the reward and the case at a press conference Thursday afternoon, said Ocean City police Lt. Steven Ang.

The reward money comes from FBI funding, Ang said.

A few things..
I read the shirt he was last seen wearing had the word "SEEDLESS" on the front. Is that a name brand? It sounds like a weed reference. Also, it says he "sent" his mother out to buy him shirts. It almost sounds like he was maybe trying to get her out of the house for some reason, like someone was coming over (a dealer?). Just a thought.

Special Agent Joe Furey said investigators believe that Weisbecker disappeared under suspicious circumstances shortly before noon on Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Furey said that evidence from Weisbecker’s residence indicates that more than one person was likely involved in his disappearance and more than one person likely has information that could facilitate his recovery.

The FBI also believes that Weisbecker was likely familiar with the people who caused his disappearance, and the people involved are likely familiar with the Cape May County area, Furey said.

“There have been several people who have been hesitant to cooperate with the investigation,” he said.

SEVERAL people hesitant to cooperate? Geez. Well, hopefully with these people someone will talk, they almost always do. The more people involved, the better the chance someone will blab or be caught in some way. **fingers crossed**

I dont know about trying to get his mother out of the house, Ive asked my mother to go buy things such as shorts, socks, whatever just because I didnt like shopping. Of course your scenario could be exactly right. I do think you could be onto something with the drugs though, especially looking at the shirt with seedless on it, Im not sure what else that could reference. Im not saying John was involved in drugs for sure, but there have been many kidnappings such as this when related to drugs. Victims that had debt to dealers or he may have been known to have money or drugs that people could want, and we know his bank account wasnt touched. That scares me into believing someone or someones may have wanted to hurt the kid. The stools being out of place may sounds like some people were sitting in them and didnt move them back when they got up. Unless they were out of place in a way that looked as if a struggle took place.

I would think LE would be able to find out if John was involved with drugs in any way. But if people are afraid of talking who knows. I find it hard to imagine his family wouldnt know or have suspicioun of possible drug use considering he lived with his mom and sister, Id be surprised if they didnt know. And Im sure they would tell LE. I havent heard anything about drug use though. Keep hope alive, until he's found he very well could be alive and well.

My thoughts are with the family, I pray he's found and in good condition.

Thank you for posting that facebook page.

A great picture of John at work on that page, made me smile back at him. He has a wonderful smile.

Prayers for his safe and quick return to his loved ones.

Does anyone think John's disappearance is related to drug activity in any way? Just curious.

I have followed this case since the day it was reported. I live very close to this town and know it very well. I believe that John might have asked his mom to pick up his shirts because the area in which she worked has a lot of discount stores. The resort town that they live in is a island with 3 bridges in and out of town. The bridge closes to there home will lead you to Atlantic City, which is a high crime area. Ocean City is a wealthy community but there is a ton of rental properties, year round and weekly between April and through the fall. There is a very small area close to the bay that is considered a poor neighborhood which is about 4 blocks from where John lived. I was driving with my husband in this area and a couple of thugs in black trench coats walked in front of our car as if they were going to try to stop us. I said to my husband for a second I thought you were going to have run them over. The High school that John went to is about 3 blocks from where he lived. I think if he was selling drugs the police would know. Also the school has cameras inside and out and have been told that there are no blind spots(I wonder if LE checked the outside cameras). I know that all transportation records were checked too. It is a very odd case!

This is such a hard to discover the truth case.

The house showed signs of a struggle. Police believe he was not alone at the house.
He was going to start a new job the next day.

But, several friends or acquaintances have not been cooperative.
Hoping he can be found.
