"More than 20 years after a barely 2-year-old New Jersey boy vanished near his home, prosecutors reissued a call Monday for information from the public in hopes of cracking the now decades-old cold case.

Kevin Barthrop was last seen near his home on Chilton Street in Elizabeth on Saturday, June 12, 1999. He vanished shortly after his 2nd birthday.

As part of the continuing investigation, a New Jersey State Police sketch artist created a photo composite that shows what Barthrop may look like at 22 (above)."

Today, Kevin Sabir Barthrop would be a 22-year-old man, but in 1999 he had just turned 2-years-old when he disappeared from his Elizabeth neighborhood, never to be seen again.

To mark the 20th anniversary of his June 12, 1999 disappearance, the Union County Prosecutor's Office on Monday released a New Jersey State Police sketch of what Barthrop would look like today as a young man and asked the public for any information about his location as police continue to investigate.

Elizabeth cold case: Where is Kevin Barthrop, who disappeared in 1999 at age 2?

Officials received an anonymous tip about his disappearance, and it was only then, 13 years later, that his mother reported him missing. Prosecutors say no one, including his own mother, will say if he died or where. They will only say that by the time they got a tip seven years ago, Barthrop had already been gone for more than a decade.

Police say people believed to have information about him are known to be living in Essex and Union counties and in North Carolina.

There is a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Details of Disappearance
Kevin was last seen near his home on the 100 block of Chilton Street in Elizabeth, New Jersey on June 12, 1999. He lived with his mother and another adult female at the time of his disappearance. He has never been heard from again.

Law enforcement were not notified of Kevin's disappearance when it happened. In 2012 they got a tip that he was missing. When they spoke to his mother, she admitted he had disappeared thirteen years earlier. A missing persons report was filed at this time. No one police talked to would say whether Kevin had died, and little information has been released about his case.

Investigators think people who may know what happened to Kevin are currently living in Essex County and Union County in New Jersey, and in North Carolina. Few details are available in his case, but foul play is suspected.

In addition, Union County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in connection with the case.

It's so tragic that a child can go missing, the adults caring for him don't have enough remorse to ever come clean, AND no one reports it for 14 years. Absolutely tragic.

Bumping case up. I wonder why they couldn't charge his mother with something. No appropriate law back then to allow it, maybe. And what say his other relatives?
