APD detectives charged Davona Chavez for a shooting at her home that resulted in life-threatening injuries to her 7-year-old son.

Chavez is charged with child abuse resulting in great bodily harm, child abuse not resulting in great bodily harm, and trafficking a controlled substance. She was booked overnight into the Metro Detention Center. Her son is in critical condition at a local hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to his head.

How was she released?!

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Davona Chavez, the mother charged in a shooting that left her seven-year-old son wounded, will be released from custody pending trial.

Police say Chavez got into a fight with her boyfriend at a home near Unser and Dennis Chavez. Officials say she grabbed a gun and shot him as he made an advance towards her. The bullet went through his leg and hit the child.

Prosecutors argued she should be held until trial, citing a 2018 case where she was accused of firing a gun from her car with children inside. That case was dismissed when a key witness failed to show up for pretrial interviews. The defense argued for her release saying she and other family members hid from her boyfriend and she grabbed the guns because they were afraid of him.

Judge Emeterio Ruldofo released Chavez until trial with conditions that include; she can’t have any contact with her children or stay in any house that has guns.

Okay - the only case I can find that has these charges is this one below. And I do not see a 11/9/23 hearing date on it.

Is this the same boyfriend she is fighting with/hiding from and shooting at in 2018 and 2023? Hopefully she will come to realize this is not a healthy relationship.

No, it was two different boyfriends. It appears the first time she shot at someone it was the father of one of her kids. This time, it was a new boyfriend. However, I found her social media page where she appears to still be dating the one from the latest incident. Hopefully someone responsible gets custody of those children

Those 2 dates for next year were there when I first found this case. I do see a next motions hearing on 11/20/23 that was set.

I wonder how the little boy is doing. Did the shooting cause brain damage/disability? Drugs and guns (and probably dangerous people coming by) in a house with children! Hopefully they lose custody of all children permanently.

I hope the child is ok, I haven't seen anything about his condition in the news. People like this don't deserve to call themselves parents

INMO, these people shouldn't even have a dog, let alone children.
