Circumstances of Recovery
Decedent was discovered by state highway dept. workers. The workers were approximately 1/2 mile west of MM 152 on 1-40. One of the workers noticed what he thought to be a skull in the area as the workers drove by. Additional skeletal elements were found nearby.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) Mary Jane Milam disappeared between Clinton, Oklahoma and Las Vegas, Nevada somewhere around 1/22 - 1/24/91. Milam was traveling with her husband Frank Milam who reported her missing in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In April 2023, after APD’s Cold Case Unit and FBI investigators built a family tree and were able to locate possible relatives living in Albuquerque. After more investigation and through DNA collected, it was confirmed the woman found near the sweater in 1994, was Carmela Vivian Duran.
The family stated that they’d lost touch with Duran up until the late 1980s and thought she’d moved away. Having not heard from her in some time, they thought she may have passed away and never reported her missing.

Now that was a really accurate sketch. RIP Carmela.

IMO, maybe a trucker had something to do with her death.
