APD searching for family after 1-year-old reported dead

Police are looking for an Albuquerque family who went missing two weeks ago after the father told relatives his baby daughter had died.

Albuquerque police spokesman Simon Drobik said David “D.J.” Zuber told his mother that on Dec. 18 his 1-year-old daughter Anastazia Zuber had drowned in the bath tub.

“Police were not called and cannot confirm if the child is alive or safe,” he said.

Drobik said Anastazia is supposed to be with Zuber and her mother Monique Romero.

He said the family was last seen in Farmington with their other two children, Athena Zuber and David Zuber III. APD did not release any identifying pictures or details for the other two children.

A missing 1-year-old girl’s body was found in a northeast Albuquerque home Friday and her parents are charged in her death, according to police.

Both parents, David Zuber and Monique Romero, will be charged with several crimes, including child abuse resulting in death.

The cause of Anastazia's death is under investigation.

The body of a missing 1-year-old girl has been found after tracking down her parents, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.

Police found the parents, David J. Zuber and Monique Romero, at an Albuquerque home Friday morning.

They executed several search warrants, and discovered the body of Anastazia Zuber at another northeast Albuquerque home.

Drobik said officers found the couple at a home in the 1900 block of Macbeth NE on Friday morning. They then executed search warrants at the apartment where the baby allegedly died and another home where the baby was found buried.

He said the couple’s other two children were found with the parents and are now in the custody of the state Children, Youth and Families Department.

I mean, at least HE gets that courtesy. Meanwhile, his daughter was buried like the family cat.

I am going to add an additional reason this is infuriating and hope that it doesn't violate terms. I started a group yesterday for them. It had been up about an hour so not much had been posted besides MSM and social media links... .After they were located and charged another admin. Posted photos of the other children that were publicly on moms fb . There are obvious bruises on all 3 childrens heads and faces. We received some pretty nasty messages from a couple claiming to be family members defending them. I'll stop there but you all know by now how this goes......

Romero and David Zuber both face several charges, including child abuse resulting in death, tampering with evidence and conspiracy. Romero made her first court appearance Saturday morning.

"We're saying that we believe we have enough evidence to charge this mother and father with abuse of a child resulting in death and it comes down to the two parents who perpetrated this crime and now we have a long investigation to do," Drobik said.

The Office of the Medical Investigator has not released the exact cause of death for the 1-year-old. Police said there are more locations to investigate and they are looking at more warrants to execute.

Police say Romero admitted Anastazia was dead. She told officers she left the little girl and her 2-year-old child “in the bathtub full of water unsupervised,” according to the complaint. She said she later found Anastazia unresponsive.

Police say more than an hour passed, and Anastazia’s mother “never sought help” for her nor called police or medical assistance. Instead, Romero told police Zuber took the little girl’s body and left the apartment. According to the criminal complaint, when Zuber returned, he told Romero “it was taken care of.”

In court Saturday, the state asked that Romero be held in custody until her trial. A ruling has yet to be reached on the request.

Zuber has not yet appeared in court.
