Here's a recent news article to publicize the recent facial reconstruction drawing:

Michelle Duncan: https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/5440/4/

When I saw this sketch I originally started searching in CA (thinking the JD was CA instead of NM for some reason - I suspect lack of coffee) and Michelle came up on my search. She disappeared in September of 1984 and had called her Mom saying she was afraid of a male who she had spoken to. Michelle asked for someone to pick her up and when they arrived she was nowhere to be found.

Could she have been driven 800 miles, murdered, and buried in NM?

Michelle has brown hair, pointed chin, and from what I can see of the images in her profile, her eyes seem to match up with the sketch.

Jeanne Geneva Overstreet fits reasonably close to the description.

Her age (19) is consistent. Blonde/Brown Hair. Her facial features and shape look pretty close IMO.

She disappeared from Tucson AZ (about 275 miles from where the remains were found), about 2 1/2 years prior. It is not clear how decomposed the remains were. There was still head and pubic hair remaining, but the remains were covered by plastic, presumably protecting them from the elements.

I wish there was a height estimate to be a little more certain. With full skeletal remains, one would think that they would have been able to estimate her height.

This Jane Doe is not Jeanne Overstreet. Jeanne was matched to a UID found in 1983 off the shoulder of Florence Highway about five miles north of Oracle Junction 14 in Pima County AZ.

I don't see a DoeNetwork case for a UID fitting those date and location parameters. And if there was one in NamUs, it isn't there now.

The model reconstruction looks much older than 16-19 years old - I think maybe it's the hairstyle throwing me off. I see that there was a more recent sketch released - was there a newer reconstruction to go with it?

No, that's all there is.

Is that just a random hairstyle they put on? Or is it what they thought she had?

When they go to the trouble to do the recreations, they should put the does in a few different wig styles and colors. It would be easy enough to do and would help people not get caught up in those types of easily changeable things. my 2 cents.

The body had been buried for "months" and some of the bones were scattered. A portion of the body was still wrapped/covered with plastic, so I would suspect that they probably had some hair to determine the color and length. But I doubt that at that point they would be able to know her hairstyle.

So, I took a trip down memory lane and looked up some hairstyles from the mid 80s. Like another poster, the hairstyle made me think "old". But after a quick 5 minutes on the net I realized that Princess Diana, along with some other celebs were sporting the "80s bob" with feathered layers or permed curls. So the wig is probably an okay representation of a "trendy" hairstyle of that time (but it is a wig so those don't look that great, typically).

Carbuff,

Unfortunately, it looks like her namus page was last updated 10/12/2012 so who knows what has or has not been investigated...

I'm wondering if she could be Terry Gayton.

Terry: https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/27605/5
UP: https://identifyus.org/cases/8314

I emailed the NamUs contact in charge for each of their cases. I think it's a reasonable possibility. The age is off, but that's happened with skeletal remains a lot before--Marilee last year, just one example. I'm not convinced it's her, but I think it's worth a shot.

I wonder if David Parker Ray was responsible for her death. He was likely active at this time.

Terry Gayton 1959 Michigan and Clara Grunst 1963 Missouri have been added to the list. Something a bit odd that I just noticed is that under the 'Year of Birth' column for the majority of names on the list have the year of their disappearance entered rather than the actual year they were born.

That's interesting. I thought the table was automatically generated. I wonder if they changed the field and not the heading or something?
