Search continues for missing van driver

New Mexico State Police have continued searching for a Santa Fe New Mexican delivery driver who disappeared early Friday from his route near Fort Sumner, but by Saturday evening, they had found no sign of 59-year-old Elmer Waite, a military veteran who lives north of Santa Fe, or the white box van he was driving.
Waite, who joined The New Mexican earlier this year and was on the same route he drives five days a week for the paper, vanished just after 4 a.m. Friday. He had dropped off newspapers in Clovis at around 3 a.m. and was expected to make another delivery in Fort Sumner but never reached his destination.

A missing newspaper carrier did not make his regular stop at the Allsup’s in Melrose on Friday morning and Santa Fe New Mexican officials are concerned Elmer Waite is a victim of a carjacking. (...)

Officials said Saturday that information from the GPS tracking device on Waite’s vehicle show it stopped about 3:35 a.m. just west of Melrose for two minutes; then, about 27 miles later, at 4:01 a.m., the device stopped working near Red Lake Road, east of Fort Sumner.

A helicopter search of the area is planned for today.

It shouldn't be too hard to find a white box truck from the air in that landscape, assuming it isn't in a warehouse or similar.

(Assuming it's still in the area, which there's no reason to assume.)

That area along US 60, is a whole lot of nothing, most of it is flat or small rolling hills. That box truck should stand out really well. There is A LOT of abandoned homes, barns and the like along there.
Someone would have to know how to disable the tracker. Is it easy? Is it hard? How do you know there's a tracker? Is it like a TomTom?

Right before Red Lake Road is that runoff 'lake' I wonder if that has been checked, I don't know how deep it currently is.

Bizarre. You'd think this would be an easy find. :-/

So sorry this was the ending. May he rest in peace and may God be with his loved ones.
