apparently amanda had a rose tattoo on her left hand, whereas this uid has one on her right hand. but perhaps amanda's sister can speak to this (she has posted on this thread)
Yes, I messaged her sister through the FB page and asked if she was 100% sure about her sisters tattoo placement or if she had any photos for reference. I'm guessing she wasn't entirely sure because she said DNA was being compared anyway.
I think a lot of people are being encouraged (or maybe, more correctly, less dissuaded) about small differences like that since Nicki Elkins was just identified as an UID from the 80s; for 40 years, her tattoo was described as being on the wrong side. I don't know if this impacted her identification or not.

Bumping for Amanda....any news? (yes, I can Google it) but not everything is out there.

I received this e-mail, Lake Pontchartrain Jane Doe is not Amanda Fravel, & Amanda is being added to the exclusion list:

Thank you for your email. I did a comparison of these two cases and we can establish an exclusion based on DNA. I have added this exclusion to National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. Let me know if there is anything that I can assist you with in the future.
Can there be a check for Amanda Fravel on whether or not she could be Bitter Creek Jane Doe? Jane doe has a rose tattoo on her chest but she could have gotten that after 1986. Including screenshots of the MP and the UP's faces to note similarity in lips and teeth as well as eye shape.

On the evening of June 13, 1986, Amanda left her apartment on south 3rd Street to visit her boyfriend. She planned to go to Boulder Highway and Desert Inn to pick up her paycheck from Taco Bell. She never made it.

After graduating from high school, Mandy was working at a Las Vegas fast-food restaurant in June 1986 when her mother sent her travel fare to come home to Rancho Cordova, CA for a visit. But when Mandy failed to return to Rancho Cordova, a check of her Las Vegas apartment turned up only two starving kittens.

Mandy is described as an animal lover who would have never left her cats without food. Employees at the restaurant where Mandy worked also said she hadn't picked up her paycheck. She had no mode of transportation, so she hitchhiked a lot.

Vanished in Vegas: Where is Amanda Lee Fravel?

The young woman left her apartment to pick up her paycheck and visit an ex-boyfriend. She never arrived at either location and has not been seen since.

Amanda Lee Fravel/NAMUS
LAS VEGAS — Amanda Lee Fravel was born on May 9, 1966, and grew up in Rancho Cordova, California.

She was a gorgeous petite woman with bleached-blond hair, green eyes, and a dazzling smile. Most people called her Mandy.

She did not have a happy upbringing; her family life was chaotic and troubling, and the situation caused her great distress.

In 1985, Amanda relocated to Las Vegas to distance herself from her dysfunctional family. She moved in with a friend and the friend’s family before finding an apartment of her own.

But her salary at Taco Bell was not enough to pay for rent, so she moved in with a roommate, Lew Frank, on South 3rd Street.
Frank was older, in his 40s, and loved having young people visit his apartment.

How Amanda met Frank is unclear, but she might have answered a newspaper advertisement seeking a roommate.

Amanda did not own a vehicle, and her mode of transportation choice is unknown. She likely took public transportation or walked everywhere. A friend said Amanda had completely stopped hitchhiking after a bad experience.

Amanda’s mother sent her money for airfare back to Rancho Cordova in June 1986 for a visit, and she was to board the plane on June 14th.

On June 13, 1986, Amanda, 20, had plans to pick up her paycheck at Taco Bell and visit her ex-boyfriend, Xavier (last name unknown). However, she never arrived at either location and never showed up in California, but a friend said she most likely would not have traveled there due to her family’s history. The friend also said Amanda told her she desired to go to Canada to meet a musician.
Shortly after her disappearance, Amanda’s mother and stepfather traveled to Vegas. They first met with her boyfriend and later visited Frank at the apartment he shared with Amanda.

Someone had packed up all of Amanda’s personal belongings. She owned two tiny kittens; no one had fed or taken care of them since June 13. It was uncharacteristic of Amanda as she loved animals and would not have abandoned her kittens.

Amanda’s mother/stepfather grew suspicious of Frank. He claimed he was from Georgia but had no southern accent. He told them he moved to Vegas to open a brothel. According to The Charley Project, “there is no record of Frank in Nevada state records. It’s possible “Lew Frank” is an alias. His current whereabouts are unknown, and police never named him as a suspect in Amanda’s case.”
Alice at Defrosting Cold Cases reported that DNA is available in Amanda Fravel’s case.

''No one has seen Amanda Fravel in 36 years. The Sonoma County native was 20 years old when she disappeared on June 13, 1986, while hitchhiking in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It’s a case that’s gone cold for more than three decades. Now,investigative newsmagazine Dateline NBC is hoping to rekindle some interest in Fravel’s disappearance, recently giving the case a spotlight on its website and interviewing family members who are hoping for some closure on the mystery.''

Davis told Dateline that Fravel was due to arrive in San Jose on June 14, 1986, but never showed up. The family initially thought she had changed her mind about seeing them, but after a week of no communication, they began to worry.

This is where the case grows cold.

Las Vegas Metro Police Department at the time could only confirm that Fravel was last seen by a friend, an older man whom she was supposedly roommates with. Her friends said Fravel was going to hitchhike across town to see her boyfriend before leaving for California, but police could not confirm the boyfriend’s name or address. No other witnesses could help police track Fravel down. The department’s current public information officer who spoke with Dateline for the new article, said that authorities do suspect foul play in her disappearance.

Fravel — who would be 56 years old today — was 5’5” and 110 pounds at the time of her disappearance. She has brown hair, green eyes and a tattoo of a rose on her left hand. Anyone with information on Fravel’s disappearance is asked to contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department at 800-492-6565.''

July 17 2022
''Tom told Dateline that shortly after they reported Amanda missing, he and Glenda flew to Las Vegas “just before the July 4 holiday” to search for her. Tom said they stopped at a 7-Eleven near Amanda’s apartment on South 3rd Street to hang a missing person’s flyer. “There was this older guy, older than me at the time,” Tom told Dateline. Looking at the flyer, the man said, “That’s Mandy.” Tom said the older guy identified himself as Lew Frank -- Amanda’s roommate.

Tom told Dateline the 7-Eleven encounter was the only interaction they had with Lew Frank. He also believes Lew Frank may not have been the roommate’s real name.

Officer Hatfield told Dateline there are no known suspects or persons of interest in the case at this time, although the investigation remains open.

Tom believes the worst about Amanda’s fate. “Obviously, she was abducted or murdered,” he said. “Or both.”

Melisa told Dateline her sister’s disappearance was extremely hard on their mother and haunts her to this day. “My mom had a nervous breakdown,” Melisa said. “She’s never been the same since.”

I am so glad they are looking into her case again!

Yes my sister did have a rose tattoo on her hand. Thank you for sharing
I met a girl who looked similar to Amanda somewhere around the years she was in Vegas. Now she did say she had a boyfriend at the time and was living in a one bedroom apartment as I recall but not near 3rd St. S. As I am guessing that would be near downtown area. Anyways one identifying thing about this girl was that she introduced me to orange tea sweetened with cream which I have never had before. Now, I know this is a long shot but thought I would just mention it. If in fact this was something Amanda actually drank than let me know. I will make a note to check back in since my email gets so much junk I would most likely never find a response.

Las Vegas has a website of unsolved homocides and there are many women/teens that where murdered in the 70's to early 90's. Alot of simularities also. Some could possibly be attributed to mob/casino but many where in their apartments or on a walk in the Henderson area. First thought to me is that many of these could be related. Amanda Fravel was last seen in downtown LV and that is close to Henderson.

Not very close to henderson, DT Vegas is close to the start of North Las Vegas tho.

Also, a good place to check would be Stewarts market owners, I saw a 1996 article they said they owned it for 25 or 26 years and that store was the best, the original location was a small family owned grocer with homemade bread and a deli and most everyone in the neighborhood went there because it was so great & a short walking distance from many residences. I am guessing the new location is a little further down Stewart than the old one.
I will make a note to check back in since my email gets so much junk that I would most likely never find a response on it.
