A woman sought for almost two weeks by authorities in Las Vegas after allegedly skipping out on a $35 manicure and using a stolen car to run over and kill a salon worker who tried to stop her has been arrested in Arizona, police said Friday.

Krystal Whipple, 21, was taken into custody by a team of Phoenix-area fugitive hunters involving local police, county investigators and FBI agents, Las Vegas law enforcement said.

Las Vegas police Officer Jacinto Rivera said he did not immediately have details of the arrest which took place in the suburb of Glendale.

He said prosecutors will seek Whipple's extradition from Arizona to Nevada where she is wanted on a warrant issued January 4 on murder and robbery charges in the killing of Ngoc Q. Nguyen, 51, of Garden Grove, California.

"The manicurist stepped in front of the car to stop the thief from leaving".

This is a tragic story, but was it really a good idea to step in front of a car fleeing a scene? For $35?

Long ago, I was a frequent manicure and pedicure purchaser. Very often in shops, the women/men who do nails or work cleaning the shop are paid little and are responsible for the cost if someone skips out on payment. The shops I have been to are dogged about collecting on the bill before the work is completed to ensure that they are not stiffed. While $35 seems like not so much, if the manicurist only makes 75-100 a day, then, the reimbursement to the house of 35 is a huge amount of money.

One shop I went to (unbeknownst to me at the time) housed the women in cramped apartments and charged them almost all of the salary they made in a month for the "privilege" of having a place to sleep and a ride to/from work. Many of the women at this place had also been sponsored by the owners and were paying back fees to them. I found out when they were busted for the practices. The women would have never let on, doing their best to be cheerful and upbeat with customers.

It appears that Ms. Nguyen was selfless and worked hard to ensure her family had what they needed. The manicure industry really thrives on the backs of the hard working staff who often see very little of the money made by the shop.

So glad they finally arrested her, can't wait to hear the details. I've been following this case and it's so unfortunate that some people have no morals. Stolen credit card, stolen car, stolen nail job, stolen life. Thankfully the kids have family.

Krystal Whipple appears in court

"Krystal Whipple, accused of killing a manicurist in Las Vegas, appeared in court in Arizona on Jan. 12."

Whipple had used a fake credit card and I.D. to rent a dark gray Chevy Camaro. During a search of the vehicle, officers found an "unattended vehicle" North Las Vegas Police sticker, several receipts, and a few water bottles.

The receipts showed the purchase of a custom automobile engine from Fairway Chevrolet just hours before Whipple went to the nail salon. Surveillance video showed her purchasing the item on a previous date and returning with a man driving a silver Nissan pickup truck on Dec. 29 to get the engine.

Police ran the license plate of the Nissan and found the person it was registered under, but it turned out that their plates were stolen without their knowledge and attached to the truck Whipple used to pick up the engine.

Fingerprints found on the driver's side window and interior rearview mirror were lifted and police were able to identify Whipple as the driver.

Such a deeply saddening tragedy when a person who cares nothing about others - would actually tear a life from someone and their loved ones, because they could.

This is so heartbreaking.

My heart goes out to the young children and the rest of Ms. Nguyen's family.
