LAS VEGAS (KXNT) – Henderson doctor Gregory Brent Dennis was arrested and charged with murder Thursday, more than two years after the death of his wife in what had been ruled an apparent suicide, Henderson authorities confirmed.

Dennis, 54, was arrested around 7:30 a.m. Thursday following a lengthy investigation into the 2015 death of his wife Susan Winters, a Henderson news release reported.

Winters, 48, died after allegedly ingesting a combination of prescription painkillers and antifreeze at the couple’s Mooreview Street home just before 7 a.m. on Jan. 3, 2015. The Clark County Coroner’s Office initially ruled Winters’ death was a suicide, however, an investigation conducted by the Henderson Police Department, the Clark County Coroner’s Office, and the Clark County District Attorney’s Office found new evidence implicating Dennis in his wife’s death.

Susan Winters parents are principal owners in the Sonic hamburger chain, so they had the resources to launch a private investigation of her death. What their team found caused the police to do an about face...

The family reached out to former FBI agent Jim Perry. Perry quickly discovered dark secrets about Brent Dennis. Three to four times per week, for a period, of about a year, Dr. Dennis made trips to visit someone at the Orleans Hotel-Casino. Bank records show that he withdrew hundreds of dollars from an ATM at the hotel each time, to buy cocaine and other drugs...

Sgro says the phone records also show that on the last night of Susan Winters’ life, as she lay unconscious and in pain, her husband called his drug dealer in the wee hours, then traveled to the Orleans. A few hours later, sometime after 5 a.m., someone used the family computer to search for information about the effects of anti-freeze poisoning.

I'm sorry for your loss, heyits_tay04. Almost nobody commits suicide by that method when even the most basic search will tell you it's not a pleasant way to go. Whenever anyone dies of poisoning it should be treated as a suspicious death or at the very least indeterminate.

Thank God her parents had the means and the drive to pursue justice for their daughter with their own resources. There needs to be an internal review as to why a coroner would rule this as a suicide without considering murder. Antifreeze, duh!

Another organization that needs serious scrutiny is the Nevada Board of Psychological Examiners, who have only just now suspended Dennis's license:

...to allow Dennis to continue practicing as a psychologist at his Boulder City mental health clinic “would be a danger to the public health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Nevada.”

The same article says her parents complained to the board about this creep way back in 2015 and the board took no action and again in 2016 the board took no action even after being given evidence of all kinds of illegal and unethical conduct in the form of a sworn deposition!

If I was a class action lawyer, I would get Dennis's patient list and file a lawsuit against this cowardly board. Institutions and those running them who fail to do their duty to protect the public must be held legally, morally, and financially responsible. Otherwise, they will refuse to change and abuses will continue.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but pompous, worthless bureaucrats and academics who cover up and coddle and protect their own at the expense of the public infuriate me no end. They should be glad I am not the governor of Nevada as not one of them would have a license to practice psychology in the state by the end of the week.

Thank you for those words!! The detectives did not do an investigation because they took his word for it! They were fired once the HPD reopens the case and saw how messed up it was....and you are antifreeze is not the way to go it's painful and sadistic. When she was taken to the ER the doctors started her on dialysis to flush her kidneys and she was starting to recover, but her husband told the doctors to "pull the plug". Disgusting.

The reports/findings show that 9 1/2 hours before she died he was calling her bank to see the amount and called the insurance to see if it covered "suicide". And once again thanks to good old cell phone pings it showed that while she was dying he was out doing more Coke and buying more drugs to give to her. :( and the data dump from the cell phones revealed so much! It is truly AMAZING what LE and the DA can accomplish when they pursue an investigation. Oh, not to mention he was prescribing his patients pain pills and then BUYING THEM BACK!

Haha and I totally think you should be Nevadas governor it sounds like you would get things done!! Thankfully, after it was released that he was buying his patients pain pills (idk why that was the biggie for them) the Psych. Board took away his license...I agree with you it was cowardly of them to not even consider the possibility of revoking it when a complaint was filed! And as for his patients, just doing some sleuthing and the consensus is anger and betrayal. Especially bc he spoke to patients regarding the case.

Side note: her mother(my gma) and I received cryptic Facebook PMs about knowledge and a confession by her husband but I can't find anything about the person grr.

Idk if I can link the videos from the news where he's laughing during his deposition?? Or the one of his release where the daughter hits the reporter while she's cussing them out.
But! The story was featured on GMA on Sunday. And this week my family met with 20/20, Dateline, Inside Edition, and ABC to explain more of the story

There's information about him stealing a check from her account in October 2013 and then forging it for $180,000 two days after she died. And the $2 mill life insurance.

Here's the one of the release... that's his oldest daughter, AKA: my cousin, causing the scene.

Since he is a danger to himself, and to others, the authorities need to take him into custody and detox. If he commits suicide, or dies accidentally, this case will never be resolved to the satisfaction of his family.

That was the worry for awhile and still sort of is that he would OD on purpose and that way it would be like "I'm really innocent but her parents drove me to do this. Blah blah blah" but tbh if he did I wouldn't be upset or my dad

Thank God Susan's parents were in the position to secure an investigator. This guy was clearly off the rails. And I had never heard of a doctor buying pain pills back from patients. Talk about being out of control.

Apparently it's some sort of drug ring with other doctors involved?? What is happening in Vegas
