At least 5 people, 3 of them infants, stabbed at NYC daycare centre
NEW YORK - Police in New York say at least five people, including three infants, were stabbed at an overnight daycare centre in Queens.

NBC New York reports that authorities say the stabbings happened just before 4 a.m. Friday. One of the infants, a girl, is in serious condition, but none of the injuries is considered life-threatening.

"The NYPD said a female suspect was in custody with self-inflicted wounds to her wrists, making a total of six injured people at the scene.

One of the wounded infants was in serious condition but expected to survive. Two additional adults were injured, including the father of one of the wounded infants. The man was stabbed in the leg.

The other adult stabbed was a staff member at the daycare center."

"Police said the woman suspected of committing the crime was found in the building's basement with the slashes to her wrist. CBS New York said she is 52 years old and believed to have worked at the daycare. She was in custody and being treated for non-life threatening injuries."

Those poor little babies, a heck of a welcome into this world, imo.

"Three infants, all girls, were taken to Cornell and LIJ hospitals. They are all in critical but stable condition. The babies are extremely young, one is 3 days old, another is a month old, and the last is 20 days old.

The three day old baby and month old baby both have injuries to their stomachs. The 20-day-old baby has cuts to her chin, ear and lip.

Two adults were also injured. A female co-worker could be heard screaming. As she was being stabbed the father of one of the babies ran in and was stabbed in the legs."

Three-days old baby was injured? A 20-day old baby too? WTF!?

This story is a bit confusing. The place is a daycare center in someone's home and children were among the injured, but the stabbings happened at 4am. Were the people in the house all family members? Or, was this a daycare that took care of children overnight? Surely the 3-day old and 20-day old babies must be relatives of someone in the house? The stabber is 52 so this isn't a post-partum situation for her (I'm assuming).

Confusing situation....and certainly tragic! What a HORRIBLE way to start life for those tiny, little ones. I hope we get more answers.

All of the wounded infants were females: a 3-day-old, a 20-day-old and a 1-month-old. The 3-day-old girl and 1-month-old girl were stabbed in the stomach and the 20-day-old girl had lacerations on her ear, authorities told FOX 5 NY. The trio was in critical, but stable, condition.

The father of a child at the day care facility and another day care worker were also stabbed in the assault. The woman was reportedly stabbed eight times. Their injuries were considered to be non-life threatening, police said. It wasn’t clear whether the father’s child was among those stabbed.

There were nine babies in the house at the time of the incident, according to NBC New York.

Very strange indeed. Aren't there laws about how many infants, under 2, are allowed? My neighbor in MD did daycare in her home and could only have 2. And I do believe even her own infant counted towards that number.

“The City provides information and training for opening and operating a day care center. Permitting, licensing or registration requirements, enforcement information, provider workshops, and inspection services are available along with reports about enforcement actions taken against day care services in New York City.

New York State law requires fingerprinting as part of the application for child care permitting, registration or licensing.”

I can't even
Just sick
I thought it was two babies, but it is three babies!

All are newborns, one month and under.

WHY were three babies so very young in an overnight daycare? The stabbings happened in the middle of the night. Were the moms working overnight shifts? So soon after giving birth?? One baby is only 3 days old.

Something seems fishy about this.

I doubt this place was licensed. Not a fact, just a hunch.

No, I found it in the news somewhere saying it was not license. Let me try to find it again. Here it is:
“Police said the Queens facility wasn’t licensed.”

As suspected.

Maybe it's not a "daycare" at all, but a relative taking care of family members' babies? The overnight thing and the fact that three newborns were there is very strange. Can neighbors give any info if people dropped off/picked up children throughout the day?
