Maybe in the morning we will get some more traffic through here. It was kind of slow in Amber's thread during the evening but exploded in the morning. Let's just make sure and keep new posts going on here.

I kind of feel lost, I know nothing about New York and even less about autism. I already make my stupid water comment.

Yes, he is. Have you seen the videos of his mother pleading for help? Even though he has the mentality of a 7-8 year old the family says he is very intelligent and seems to have an understanding of the trains. So I am hoping he is able to find enough food and water to survive on and eventually one of the searchers will find him on a train. Luckily the temperatures are staying pretty warm even at night.

Yes I watched all the vids that have been posted. So painful to watch when she says she can't even watch him leaving the school.

Well, I don't think he is going to starve to death. He's probably pretty hungry but he would be able to find scraps I'm pretty sure. And even if he didn't eat a thing I'm pretty sure it would take 2-3 weeks to starve to death. But he may also be burning a lot of calories.

Tonight they are searching the graveyard shift. I guess the subways run 24 hours? You know actually, although a scary time to be out, in the middle of the night might be better for searching the sidewalks and subways. There would be a lot less people milling around. Now I am talking like a know New York. (Well, I do watch the ball drop on tv on New Year's. :blushing:) Does that count?

Not a stupid comment. Not all people with autism run for the water- some run away from it- depends on their sensory issues.

He is into trains... hopefully they will find him on one.

An updated missing flyer with a photo of the shirt he was last seen in.

Was hoping there would be news today. I worked with Autism students for 20 years, and this always upsets me. I wonder if he would be trying to go home and would he know how to get there? If everyone would check their properties and report minor thefts or attempted break-ins (like for food and shelter), it may help. These kids behave one way in a structured setting and quite another without it. :(

Do we know if the family has plastered the trains, train stations and the area around every train station with posters? While NY is large and there are hundreds of train stations it could be done fairly easily with a large number of volunteers and somebody to coordinate the effort.

Some mentioned earlier in the thread about convenience stores and newsstands where he might run in and grab a candy bar or something to eat. Shops like these near train stations should be alerted to the fact that he is missing and might be stealing bits to eat.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, my computer is broken, so I am forced to try to follow on a tablet.

Do they have an active facebook? I know some have them but they aren't active. They need hundreds of volunteers if he could have gotten on a subway or train to pepper the routes with flyers. How is MSM doing?

He's wearing a pretty distinctive shirt that would show up well on surveillance vids. There have to be lots of them in NYC for them to be able to at least get a gist of where he dropped off the radar. Praying he's found soon and that some good hearted person is caring for him.

I am here and have been following Avonte's story since it broke, just have absolutely nothing to add that has not been said already.

Come home, buddy. There is love for you aplenty!

it's going to be cold and rainy tonight i hope today is the day you're reunited with your loved ones avonte.

(sigh) was so hoping he would be found by now. Where are you Avonte??

Still wondering, waiting, watching. I thought it was smart to check the trains at night (less people and if he were living on the trains, this might have helped show him) but I'm starting to think someone might have taken him in. You;d have to be pretty street smart to live a week undetected, stealing food/clothes. Time to canvas the homeless populations, where autism would certainly blend in with the other myriad of behaviors IMO. Also time to announce a reward (5,000, right?) and get very vocal very quickly. Feels like a short window of time and too much has passed already.

this is horrible...I hope the trains and their destinations have all been checked. How easy is it to get on one without a ticket?
