Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Richard Cobb, who is handling the investigation, said while authorities appreciate the interest shown by local residents in helping to find Ramsaran, they will not endorse any search by civilians.

Stated Cobb, “If there is any reason to search an area we would have already searched there or will be searching there.

I, for one, did not believe from the very first i heard she was missing, that she would have just run off like everyone thought. A mother who is portrayed as a loving family woman, like she was in her pics posted by her on her original FB site, would never just up and leave her kids like that. If she had just left, i know she would have called her children at least to let them know she was ok. As time went on and there was no trace of her, no calls, no nothing, i just had a feeling something had happened to her. When her phone was found, i was surprised that they werent searching in that area. They should have had two teams, one searching her home and grounds and one searching the area where the phone was found. Thats the first thing that occurred to me when they found her phone and then her vehicle. As far as i know, other than searching the immediate area where her phone was, they didnt search the whole general area for a few miles like i would have thought. They could have had the forest rangers out looking, hired helicopters, search dogs, members of the fire depts, etc could have been used to help search if they didnt want to use the public to do so. In most cases around here, when a person becomes listed as missing, they organize search parties and utilize news media to help locate them. They give a full description of the persons hair color, eye color, clothing worn, etc. Ive seen this before with alzeimers people that become missing and hunters lost in the woods and kids that run off. Why it wasnt done this way in this case is a mystery, except it makes one wonder if they knew something before she became missing that would have lead to her demise if they made a big push to locate her? Maybe this was a kidnapping gone bad? Or maybe she had been threatened in some way? Also, another reason for the silence might be because if there is a trial in this case, there would never be a chance for the perp to get a fair trial because everyone would be biased and they would have to move the trial out of the area. In a community this small where everyone knows everyone else, the talk that goes around can virtually condemn a person of interest, even if he or she isnt guilty. If they let out too much info, then the perp could be threatened, and since theres children involved, im sure they are taking all precautions. I am quite sure that LE has a lot more info and evidence than what we know. If by chance, GR is guilty, then releasing more info before they are ready to charge him, then it could increase the chances of him going on the run with the kids, therefore endangering the kids. I am patient and have faith in LE. I just hope they will let us know the results of the autopsy when they get the info back, but i have a feeling that we will not be told anything until we read about the arrest in the papers. We might not even be told what happened to her or how or why! This is all IMO and is by no means based on any facts!

Again odd! I am living it and I can't describe it. We are stifled. By who? I can't say because no one is stifling me, I just feel like if I speak out, I will be in the wrong

Ace, I agree we still have a sense of this chivalry. I just mad a call to friends and family, they would be out in the woods (or digging me out of ditches I backed into). They took time out of their hunting to search for Jenn (huge deal to these people) People are angry, but we feel stifled!

It appears to me that hunting hunting season for deer and bear ended December 18, only a week after Jenn went missing. Aside from weasel, skunk, opossum, skunk, fox and coyote hunting which are much longer seasons, the majority of hunters were sitting home from Dec 18 until turkey season opens in April.

I'm so glad that the Sheriff's office was searching so hard! That explains why GR "found" the cellphone, JR's dad found the NOT-maroon minivan, and a property owner found Jennifer down an embankment. Yep...Great searching LE!!!! Glad you didn't encourage non-professionals to do any searching. :moo::moo::moo:

:furious:

While the community silence and fear to speak up disturbs me, (and may enable the perp), I do think that protecting the lives of the children in this situation has to come first. Absolutely. I cannot know what I would do, if I were at all responsible for these children, but if I believed that silence would best protect them, i'd be quiet.
So, i'm going back to my corner, for now...

Ask yourself, who had means, motive, and opportunity. Now combine this with Leakage; Founder of the Academy Think Tank Dr. Roger Depue is a 21-year veteran of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI-BAU), where ... This led him to coin the term “leakage”, which basically means that one's fantasies consciously or subconsciously tend to leak out..

'Imo, if there had been any more Leakage, than there has been in this case, we would all have to resort to deep water life boats'..

I guess coyotes are acceptable contamination of evidence over a couple of footprints. Or 3 months in the elements of an upstate NY winter. If i didn't know better, i would suspect there was a concerted effort at destruction of evidence. What searcher would actually touch a victim's body if they came across it?

Help me understand this? You are a community with a murderer(s) living among you!

To stifle yourself is a choice that you make. So help me understand WHY you and other locals would choose to be quiet about a murder?

I'm not really stifled. I don't frighten easily. With that being said, yes, I feel like people, LE and in general won't speak out for fear of offending someone, maybe? JMO It doesn't feel like we should be discussing anything at all.

I discuss Jennifer everyday and to everyone. I get mad, send nasty messages and I call them out on everything they do wrong or say.

This is just a general consensus or observation.

No one says shut up- you just hear it in their voice. No, I am very verbal, a little too verbal. I make everyone talk about it, if only to here them Say Jen's name and know her story

People seem nervous to speak of this entire tragedy!

I'm not a local, but have been following this case.. Chenango county is certainly less populated than where I'm from, but I participated in many searches for Katrina Smith (from Machesney Park, IL - found deceased) and LE advised that if we found anything of "possible interest" to contact them. This is exactly what we did, and LE showed up every time we contacted them, and actually encouraged the searches. It seems that a more "close knit" community would have supported the same. IMO :twocents:

We went out the first Saturday after she went missing ... They were suppose to hunt that day, but ended up helping all day. There are other types of hunting as well ... then fishing started right after that. These guys put a lot of time into hiking around when they could have been hunting and fishing, they covered a lot of ground all for a Thank You! Bless them all

BearAngel, I have a question for you. I am curious about using animals for outdoor searches. Will dogs and/or horses still be able to pick up scents outside now that the snow is melting. How long would clothing or objects be able to hold a scent through the winter months? I was amazed by your post about your horse that likes to dig! That is so awesome! What types of searches would you prefer to use a horse over a dog?
There was a popular dog search team from the town I grew up in. The Onderdonk family was well known for their Bloodhounds. They are now known as the Rennsalear County Search and Rescue Team. I had contacted them a while ago and they were willing to help but only if contacted by the Sheriff's Dept. I really wish they would have called them.

Not to bash anyone, but there should have been 'reason to search' Center Road where she was found. Yet it took a local land owner to locate her just off a secondary road less than 4.5 miles from where the phone was found 3 months after she was missing? If they are that short handed why discourage public searching. The van covered in mud really points to a secondary or tertiary road being involved. I mean draw a 10 mile radius around the van and there she is. There are not that many miles of roads and it seemed clear from the evidence that she was close by.

Center rd was searched twice. Again, we had so much snow, no one could have found her. We are lucky Mr Hayner did when he did. I can't stress this enough. I have thought, did he watch the weather and know snow was coming?

Searched by non LE anyway. Snow there all winter!

It sure is easy to be a Monday morning arm chair quarterback on WS. But considering some of the propaganda released and gobbled up through social media and how its run wild its going to be interesting to see where everyone runs to hide when the crap finally hits the fan?
Does anyone think LE was ever looked at this case as a run away?
Maybe there was evidence or information from the start which indicated foul play or worse?
What if the alibis aren't as rosy as the PR team is portraying?
No body no crime correct?
No COD no charges correct?
Wouldn't it make sense to rule out any possible COD due to natural causes before charges are filed?
Good poker players never show their hands before the final turn do they?
There is so much in this case that we don't know and so much more we think we know.
But what do we really know? Only what the PR machine has feed us and what we want to believe.
Justice will be served despite the misinformation, agendas, lies, .................

I think hesitant to talk about, uneasy to express an opinion about what they think may have happened is accurate. Small towns are a whole different world, when compared to cities.
In a city where crime is more often in the news and violence is all around, it makes a person desensitized to it.
In small towns, as mentioned here, everyone knows or is related to everyone else. My belief is that the people who are close enough to the couple ( Jennifer, Remy)to know, would not even want to think that a spouse, someone they know could do anything this awful. Throw in what we read here and other sites about hacking and threats, it creates a culture of fear.
Fear because you don't want to believe it and fear because if a community member could do this to someone they loved, what can they do to someone who just made them really mad!
Oh, and with a LE agency that hasn't shown itself to be particularly on the ball about the big stuff, do you trust them to deal with your complaint of hacking or harassment?

Small towns area whole different world.

Jillian, did the Sheriff's Dept. order you all not to search for Jennifer?

As for the Sheriff's Dept. what do you all expect them to tell the news media? or even the locals? I'm not sure I understand, other than it is frustrating when it seems like LE is not doing anything, it certainly doesn't make that the case imo.

They didn't order us not to search for Jen, or to call off the search.
I spoke with Lt. Cobb several days prior to the search that was scheduled for 01/19. He said he couldn't "condone public searches" but understood the community's desire to search. He said to make sure that 1) if anyone sees anything suspicious to stop and immediately call 911 and 2) to be safe.

Not one press conference from LE to date. If they held a press conference even if just to say, "We're working on this, and continue to follow leads" I think that would be helpful to the general public.

CJ posted that an entire population of residents in a trailer park had not even been questioned. The trailer park is on 23 between where Jen was found and where her phone was found. I would like to know why this wasn't done.

I have a lot of questions, but feel I'm not entitled to even ask them.

BBM

Yes. And when you ask a question on the sheriff's dept. FB page and read "That answer has been answered repeatedly!!!!!" it tends to make people afraid of asking anything else. That answer came from the sheriff himself, but was removed later.

Something seems off. GR is friends / of a friend (?) with a local sheriff , a local sheriffs father found the body, local sheriffs discouraged searching for her and have to this date not had a press conference, they failed to search key areas completely, didn't question people in key areas.... Something is off here. If I didn't know any better I'd think they didn't want the case solved and wanted it to be kept hush hush. Why though?!? JMO.

Who is making this friends thing factual?

The sheriff's office has all my support and thanks for every single thing they are doing to bring Jennifer's case to a successful conclusion. I am on their side.

The Police have their reasons, I am sure they know everything and will act accordingly.

I do find it odd the number of participants who came and went here and on fb. There has been spin and transparent damage control from day 1. Who knows the source of any of the information being leaked one way or another. The whole thing just reeks of manipulation.

I think the community in general feels helpless.
Emotions are running high as time quickly passes, and people genuinely want closure for the family, regardless of "who dunnit."
Rumors spread and our minds run rampant with worse case scenarios.
And, we don't know what's factual and what's rumor.
We're left to guess.
We hear of so many unsolved cases and dread the thought of this becoming one of them.
LE may feel the brunt of it for not holding a press conference. That's on them.
Only those directly involved with LE will tell us to have complete faith, IMO.
Or perhaps, people who are being told by LE "we've got this."
I see nothing wrong with being skeptical. At least not this late into the game.
To me it seems too black and white - we're either to believe that LE is completely competent and doing all they can, or they're not doing squat.
Maybe it's somewhere in the middle.
To completely disregard community members questions about this case is not only unnerving, it's disrespectful and uncalled for.
No one's asking for details. They're just asking for general updates.
A simple "We continue to follow all leads that come in, and would appreciate any help from the public, as well as their patience" would be sufficient.
