There must be other cases. I have a feeling this is the first time that he's done it in the Jewish community and that's why he came forward in a confession.

Even more so this time because they were on the trail quickly, they were so close! How many hours had gone by before he was found? I know it wasn't even 24 hrs. Bless those LE and all others involved in the search. May God give them and the family peace.

Am I the only person who thinks this guy reminds them of Jeffrey Dalhmer? It also goes back to something CN2 said earlier. I know what you meant CN2 but I can't type it, I just can't.

Jeffrey Dahmer and others. LA's behavior and writings remind me of the odd ramblings of serial killers. I wonder what is going to match when LE enters Levi's DNA into CODIS. I think I recall reading NY is a state that allows DNA to be taken upon being charged with a felony versus waiting for conviction, but I can't be certain as I just recently did a quick glance through an article on the topic.

Dahmer and Richard Otto Macek, both serial killers and both eventually spoke of and acknowledged they knew something within them was not right. LA has that same creepy look in his eyes like he is souless. It's hard to describe other than knowing it when one sees it.

It was more the 24 hours. The enormous search started at about the 24 hour mark. Leibby went missing about 4:50 PM Monday and was found a few hours in the early morning Wednesday, so he was missing about 33 hours or so give or take a few hours.

Thanks Cubby. Being up all night with you guys I've lost a whole day.

Did you get any sleep and Ms F and the others who were here with me? I slept till about 1pm after leaving you guys at 6:30am.

I had a very hard time sleeping and didn't fall asleep until 8:30 or so this am. I slept until about 3. Which I usually could not do but my son is on vacation with his dad right now.

An the comment "Somethings just not right with him" I'd love to hear what his past father in law truly noticed.

His ex father in law and those who knew LA when he was a pre-teen and teen. I have a feeling LA had another life outside of his tight community. Right now only those within the tight community seem to be interviewed...(aside from his ex wife). We'll see what comes out in the coming days.

Hi all I am back again after staying up all last night my time (morning your time) when we learned he had been killed. I can not get that video out of my mind.......the one where LA crosses the road and Leiby is standing on the corner and goes to him as he crosses the road.

Because of this video I was convinced he knew his killer, but now that we know he was a stranger I just cant stop thinking about how terribly terribly terribly and I'll say it again terribly unlucky little Leiby was.

This was his first time walking alone, he is lost and could ask quite a lot of people for directions, but what happens he sees a jewish man, one of his own coming towards him and I suspect feeling secure because he was jewish walks up to him and ask for directions.

If you look at the video, he was walking past, on his way to the dentist and little Liebby probably said "excuse me sir".

This is where the unlucky comes in, this guy has asked other kids in his apartment if he can pick them up from daycamp, he's been dreaming of children and had these not right thoughts for a long time, and then bingo, a little lost boy asks HIM for directions...........too tempting for his sick mind.

Of course this is what I think may have happened, I really hope he has not acted out his fantasies before, time will tell.

Uugghhhhh

Does anyone know if the photo of the family in the above article shows his mother and father as the couple in front?

That's what I was wondering. I'm sure there must be photos of the dad speaking, but I was curious if there were cultural issues with the mom's photo being released.

If you are refering to the group of people walking out of the building, I do not think those are his mother and father. I saw a photo of Leiby's dad in one of the many articles or blogs and he does not have any gray. These may be grandparents or extended family.

The photo's of the crowds in the street, especially of the one with the crowd closing the gap behind the hearse brought me to tears.

Not only does a community weep for Leiby, the world weeps for Leiby.

Actually the neighborhood is filled with Jewish people and Levi would not look as "Jewish" to the little boy as the other people in the neighborhood. It's a very distinct look, you can see it in the funeral pictures.

14th Avenue is a rich and crowded area. There's no reason in the world that he would go up to Levi and ask him for a ride, there must be more to this story. I find it hard to believe.

Of course. It's not just the parents, the entire community acts this way so it's cultural or something but it UNBELIEVABLE to me that there have not been more incidents or accidents.

When the mothers cross the streets, they will usually have a bunch of kids with them and the little ones tag behind even though traffic is everywhere.

It was simply a matter of time before something like this happened. I feel so bad for the family. He was such a sweet child.

Oh Chewy, I know what you meant. Your post was perfectly appropriate to me. I just worry sometimes about how things I say come across on the net.

Does anyone know if Leiby had brothers and/or sisters?

Still very very quick for them to all rally and search. If only the outcome had been different.....

oh ok...I did not realize that......when I think New York I think millions of people...from all walks of life.......I knew he was from a predominatly hasidic jewish area but did not realize that the area he was lost in was also that way...........yes it does seem strange that he asked him, because in the video LA looks to walk past, it is only his word that Leiby asked him for directions....in the video when you see him pause and talk for an extremely brief time to Leiby I am wondering if LA first asked Leiby if he was ok and then Leiby told him he was lost. It is such a brief encounter before he starts following him.

Browne said a neighbor of the suspect reported that Aron tried to give her young son a ride in his car last year. The mom told police she thought little of it the time, assuming he was "just being friendly," Browne said.

This is quite telling.

He had to have done this before. He had the child's feet in his freezer. Even if he panicked and killed him, who would cut up a body like that.

Thanks, Cubby.

No doubt incredibly quick. I can't think of any other case here at WS a group as large as this had come together so quickly to search for a missing child.

Sadly from what I have read Leiby was in that car within 30-40 minutes of having left the day camp. (various MSM articles indicate he was picked up about 5:30-5:40 based on the time LA was at the dentists office).

Additional MSM articles indicate his parents contacted the local Jewish neighborhood watch (forgive me, I forget the name of the organization) at 7pm and this organization contacted NYPD at 8pm Monday evening.

Sadly, little Leiby's case is textbook of the worst we know of with stranger abductions and that small window of time NCMEC, LE and various organizations talk about.

Devistatingly sad to have lost a life at such a precious young age.

I'm almost positive he would. Also I think I read he was the second child.

I guess it could depend on how LA dressed that day. I just read that Leiby had wandered over to 18th Avenue and Dahill Road. That would be a very different situation.

Boro Park is a tight community but like many neighborhoods in BK it can change in an instant to a completely different type of community. The Hasidim there stand out, but then it changes to a more diverse community in Kensington.

Dahill Road is also a strange road that runs on an angle and so if the boy had wandered all the way over there, he would be under the subway which runs along McDonald Ave. It would have been very noisy and frightening to the boy if he was used to always being in Boro Park surrounded by all Hasidim.

So if LA was dressed in a Jewish style, the boy may have asked him after all.

I'm attaching a map link.
