Suspect is still at large.

It started around 1 a.m. Sunday when police received a report of an assault at a home on Monroe Avenue. When officers arrived they couldn't find anyone in the house, but did see a broken window and blood. They followed a blood trail as long as they could into a nearby alley.

Later in the morning, when the family of the victim still couldn't make contact with her, police returned to the scene with a bloodhound. The dog was able to track the woman to a home not too far away on Monroe Ave.

When they got to the scene, police were able to rescue the woman who was chained up in the basement. The suspect then barricaded himself inside.

Is the suspect known to the woman? And how in the world did he escape police if he was barricaded inside? And why did the police LEAVE the first time if there was a broken window and blood that lead them away from her house!? Wtf? So many questions...

All these stories of women being dragged to basements and being tortured is absolutely horrifying. It has made me realise that, as a woman, if i'm ever approached to get into a car, or whatever means an attacker might have to get me to a second location, I will fight like hell or run, even in the face of a weapon, bc THIS is a thing... being chained up in a basement! That's my plan, although I also know that sometimes you become paralyzed with fear and cannot move. I did buy a nice whistle this weekend at Crimecon! I would have bought one of the fancy stun guns they were selling if I could fly back overseas with it, but I can't. The world has gone absolutely bonkers.

Sounds like perhaps he was never in the house when the police arrived.

And yes- the second crime scene is always more violent that the first one... fight like hell and take your chances.

I would rather be shot on the spot than chained in a basement and tortured for days.

My friend was approached by a man in a parking garage. He told her he had a gun and to go to her car. She pretended to faint, fell out on the ground and he fled.

So, just fall out on the ground. Chances are they know better than to be seen literally dragging a limp body or carrying someone over their shoulder.

I actually asked if she thought I could do that (the woman whose booth it was), but she said there are some countries that it’s illegal to even mail to. I live in one of those countries. Mace is also illegal to buy in most, if not all, Scandinavian countries. (Or it was last time I checked).

Woman chained in home: police arrest suspect
Police have arrested Michael Ciskiewic, 25, of Niagara Falls after a woman was found chained in his basement on Monroe Avenue in the Cataract City. Ciskiewic was found by police hiding in an overgrown industrial area near 24th and Allen at around 7:00 p.m. Monday night. Ciskiewic is being charged with kidnapping, rape, burglary, assault and menacing with a weapon.

Ciskiewic is scheduled to be in court on Tuesday morning.

Man arrested after woman found chained in basement of Niagara Falls ho

"According to Niagara Falls police, Ciskiewic, who was a neighbor of the victim, knocked on her door and attacked her Sunday around 1 a.m., WGRZ reported.

“She was familiar with him to open the door, even at that late hour it seemed odd that he would be there but I think she felt comfortable enough," Niagara Falls Detective Capt. Kelly Rizzo said at a news conference Monday night. "She probably wanted to see if he was OK and the attack happened as soon as she opened the door.”

While authorities found a broken window and blood at the victim's house, they were unable to locate her, according to WGRZ. Police then used a bloodhound in the search, which led authorities to a residence several doors away.

While police initially could not find the woman, a second search by the bloodhound led authorities to the basement, where they found her screaming and chained, WIVB reported.

Niagara Falls police Detective Lt. John Conti said the woman was chained by the ankle, had her wrists bound by tape and had a sock stuffed in her mouth, the Niagara Gazette reported."
