Agree the perp could have come from either direction but the location is remote so he may be familiar with the area. Carleton, Miller Pl., Bertel Ave., Dock St. are very industrial, not a heavily traveled area. Lots of iron works shops, auto repair, etc

Hutch Pkwy southbound is also more plausible because coming northbound there are more secluded areas to dump a body, like Pelham Bay Park, in the north Bronx. Why also did he leave her in an area where she would be easily found when the shops opened the next day? Sorry for all my posts, just thinking out loud.

I came across this missing woman that kinda resembles this Jane Doe but the stats are off some. They have her listed as missing since 1989 but she wasn't reported missing until years later.

True, but one thing that will change that is if the perp has a familiarity with the location, so he's not just heading to "a deserted area where I can dump a body" but (just making this up) "that deserted lot behind the plant where I used to work." Then he might pass up what seems to us to be a more logical location.

Not that I think that happened here. Where this location is right on the border, it seems more likely that he came from the north and did his business at the first spot he came to.

So here's my hold up:

She had two weeks worth of underarm hair growth but her pubic hair had been shaved.

This was in 1988, I was under the impression that bare pubic areas were NOT common back then.

I wonder if she had been a runaway or street kid who had recently (Or maybe not even that recently) started into prostitution.

(This may be mildly graphic if you are sensitive to sex-work)
If she was a street-walker (Instead of an escort) she wouldn't really need to shave her underarms because she wouldn't (In theory) really even need to take off her shirt. She'd just push it up to expose her breasts if she needed to. That would also explain why she'd be in an industrial area, if she got into the car with a "client" at night all the shops and plants would be closed so they would be in a mild degree of privacy.
It also fits in with the cause of death at least in my mind because most murder cases that that I recall of prostitutes involve them being strangled. I don't know the psychology behind that or even if that's even accurate so forgive me if I'm totally in the wrong ballpark.


It could also be that she was just a normal street kid that didn't get into sex work. I know that a lot of street kids did certain shaving routines for "Cleanliness reasons" around that time of month.

Also if she was a known runaway she might not be in the system. If the family even reported her the police might have dropped the ball and not put her in the system. For all we know the family could have thought that the police are still looking for her and haven't stepped up to see why it's been so long.

She shaved her pubic area, which is quite unusual for the time, but not her underarms and her eyebrows aren't plucked. It seems odd. But as you said, it might be that she was working the streets.
